[Resolved]  Iffco Tokio General Insurance Co. Ltd — Denial of car insurance claim by the surveyor

I have a Zero Depreciation Car Insurance Policy of IFFCO TOKIO GENERAL INSURANCE CO. LTD. for my car (Toyota Etios) registered in Delhi having Registration no. DL2CQ 0700.

Recently, I met with an accident as a result of which the rear bumper, tail light, dikki, right hand side rear tyre & rim got completely damaged. There were some other damages also to front bumper and second tail light.

At the time of giving insurance policy, many promises were made to me by representatives of insurance company regarding the claim and the benefits. I was made to understand that Zero
Depreciation policy is beneficial and you get the complete claim for the parts damaged during an accident. But the fact is totally different. My claim has been denied for various items damaged during the accident, for one or the other reasons.

The Rear bumper of my car got a major damage during the current accident. Just because, there was one very small old damage in the bumper the surveyor has reduce my claim to 50%. If there is a car running on road in Delhi, there will always be some minor scratches on it. Effectively, the company has made Zero Depreciation policy useless and is trying to recover the cost of depreciation in another way by approving incomplete/ partial claims. This was never informed to me at the time of renewing car insurance.


My car's Rear tyre and Rim got completely damaged during the accident. However, the surveyor (Mr. Arun Yadav) does not feel that it has damaged during the accident, because of which he has
denied the claim. Since I have an insurance policy which covers the damages incurred during an accident, I am entitled to get the claim for the tyre & rim damaged, irrespective of what surveyor feels.


For the Front bumper, the claim has been denied stating that it has some old damage. I had not denied that fact. But irrespective of old damage to any part, if a part has further damaged during an accident the cost of repairing of additional damage occurred during the accident should atleast be passed by the insurance company. I am not asking the company to repair for my old damages. I just want the company to cover my current damages.

Claim for some other parts have also been denied due to one or the other reasons.

Instead of assisting in the matter, the surveyor is trying to prove us wrong. The surveyor visited the
workshop and collected data from the last service job-sheet, in which some minor scratches/ damages were noted. I had myself earlier only accepted those facts that there were minor scratches/ damages to bumper. Stating this reason he is saying that claim already passed with some items and denying various other items would hold good.

I am still unable to understand as to once a policy covers 100% cost of repair/ replacement of the damaged part, why the company is not passing the same and is denying claims for various items (which have been destroyed because of accident) by giving one or the other reasons. It is very disappointing to see such assistance from the insurance company's side.


The manner in which claim has been passed does not at all seem to be justified. This is in a way cheating the customer by making false promises at the time of doing insurance and not living
upto them thereafter. The conditions like these deductions were never told by the insurance company.

Request you to kindly assist me in this matter and help me in getting my eligible claim approved from the company at the earliest.

Sagar you are right company should have to pay all amount which has got damaged due to accident.I support your claim..Please files a case in consumer forum.
