Irctc — Over Charging for Food & Beverages sold in stations in Trichy Division of Southern Railway
IRCTC has fixed Rs 7/- per cup of tea & coffee sold by platform vendors all across India. However in Trichy division its up to the whims and fancy of vendor. He may charge 8 to 10 as he feels like. Trichy being an important divisional HQ under Southern Railway, over charging is happening at Tricy Junction (TPJ) right under the nose of DRM & DCRM. If anyone objects, vendor will cajole at the complainant. They say this is my price, if you want to buy from us, this is the price. It happens in most stations under this division be it Thanjavur (TJ), Tiruvarur (TVR) etc. None seems to be listening. The snacks like Vada, Samosa etc are also overpriced. Water bottle is charged at Rs 20/- instead of 15/- Many people are not aware of the actual price especially the villagers, elderly, women etc. The quantity & price should be pre-printed boldly on every tea cup. Similarly on all food packets also the price should be written along with the name of item inside. Toll free complaint no should also be printed. Tea, Coffee, Water bottle are the most sold item in trains nationwide. Hence it should be painted on both ends of the inside end panel of every coach. Was this information helpful?
