Manipal Hospital — excess billing for 7 month kid 2nd time neurosurgery operation for the same problem within a week

Dear Sir/Madam,

I, Bidhan Talukder, would like to inform you that my daughter, Aadrika Talukder, 7months old baby girl, admitted to Manipal Hospital, No.98, HAL, Old Airport Road, Bangalore-560017, registered number: MH[protected], dated-08.06.2019. After that done all the diagnosis before Neurosurgery Operation and surgery is successful as told by the doctor Bopanna KM and the team. And discharged on 12.06.2019 and before & after paid the bill of Rs.2 23, 239/-(Rupees two lakh twenty three thousand two hundred and thirty nine); estimation was given within 250, 000/- (Rupees two lakh and fifty thousand only). We were satisfied.

But next day we came for follow up because swelling was increasing her head after operation gradually then Dr. Bopanna told that no problem it will be normal within few days. But again on 16th June after swelling very high water types things were coming out from her head very highly and admitted to same hospital in the emergency department and next day Dr. Bopanna was suggesting for doing 2nd operation due to the serious situation of not recovering after 1st operation. And the cost for the 2nd operation will be minimum Rs.100, 000/- (Rupees one lakh only) to maximum Rs.150, 000/- (Rupees one lakh fifty thousand only) including everything in the hospital because operation is doing for 2nd time so discounted rate for you only; this quotation is given by the department Dr. Avijit and then I agreed for the same after discussing with my friends and relatives because I don't have that much of money for the 2nd operation after 1st operation. My financial condition is not good; being a responsible father I want to do everything for my 7 months old daughter after taking help from myself, my friends and relatives and moral support from Prabir Bala (who is doing job in Bangalore but he is from my village only).

But after completing the operation successfully putting shunt (one type of pipe put inside her head to abdomen to release the water from head towards abdomen); as per Dr. Bopanna everything is in under control as of now and told us to discharge her on 18.06.2019.

And made a bill of Rs. 211, 369/- (Two lakh eleven thousand three hundred and sixty nine only) on 18.06.2019 instead of Rs.150, 000/- as said by Dr. Avijit before operation for the 2nd time.

So Prabir Bala and me were requesting Dr. Avijit but he didn't speak to us due to departmental issues inside the hospital. Then we went to Customer Relation Department, there Mrs. Anuradha, Customer Relationship Manager; she told today (18.06.2019) after 6pm account department officer Theresa and surgeon doctor Bopanna KM is not available so I will help to not to pay any charges more for today due to non-availability of those two people and no need to discharge them today discharge them tomorrow(19.06.2019).

Even though next day they generated bill amount of Rs.2 16, 979/- (Rupees two lakh sixteen thousand nine hundred and seventy nine) and asked as to pay this whole amount within 1pm on 19.06.2019 by Theresa Madam. And from morning they are miss-behaving with the mother of the kid telling "tell your husband to pay all the bill now and leave the bed because other patient is waiting for the bed. No Dr., No Nurse had not given any treatment and but they raised the bill from Rs. 211, 369/- to Rs.2 16, 979/- and Theresa was literally threatening to pay the same amount immediately and leave the bed new patients are waiting outside but there was no patient like that waiting for.

Initially from doctors to nurses behaving nicely but suddenly everyone is harassing us and forcing to pay the bill immediately.

Then from customer relation department suggested us to meet Miss Prema at Billing Department; we met her and she told to give a written request to give some discount and she has given discount of Rs.4, 000/- (Rupees four thousand only) and told us to pay remaining amount (for reference please check the attachment with this complain).

Then we approached to Billing Manager, Devendra for helping us to get give more discount and he told you have already paid Rs.32, 136/- (Rupees thirty two thousand one hundred and thirty six only) so I am giving you pay remaining amount on 2lakhs instead of Rs.2 16, 979/- (Rupees two lakh sixteen thousand nine hundred and seventy nine). So then we paid the remaining amount of Rs.167, 864/- (Rupees one lakh sixty seven thousand eight hundred and sixty four only). We are not satisfied with the service and behavior and the increasing bill for the second operation for the same problem.

We paid the bill and they discharged.

Now my request to you as following:

1. Help me to get refund of increasing bill amount Rs.50, 000/- (Rupees fifty thousand only)

2. Everyday at Manipal Hospital, most of the patients guardians are facing same problem; 1st hospital authority increasing the bill then giving Little bit discount. So see this matters urgently, Prabir Bala can help you to get the details inside the Manipal Hospital.

3. Honesty and integrity is not there up to the mark

4. Most of the hospital in Bangalore doing excess diagnostic tests that much is not required for treatment. Very serious concerns.

5. Huge treatment traffic is there in Bangalore because most of the people are coming from different states all over India and hospital authority are taking advantage of the patients urgency and making increasing bill.

6. Treatment and care is not upto the mark
