[Resolved] Sight Savers in India — NGO Fraud | |
I got a call from someone([protected]) recognizing herself with 'Sight Savers in India'. I told her that I will talk to her later, as I was ill. Later today she called and asked me to do a donation for Treating Blind Children on 'Sight Savers in India' web site(http://www.sightsaversindia.in/). When I told her that it is going to be difficult this month, she insisted on making atleast some contribution and send the transaction ID to the same number. I agreed and felt happy to help blind children. Upon payment when I tried to send an SMS to that number, in my cell, I saw old message sent to the same number. It was about my contribution for the NGO called 'PlanIndia'. I was shocked. I called that number back and asked about what is the relationship between two NGOs? She told there is no relation and she was arguing that the numbers may be similar. But I can prove that both NGOs had used same number. I suspect huge fraud in the name of NGOs. I got a call from sight savers organization and she said about some auto debit policy which will debit RS 650/- every month automatically, but i am not ok with auto debit policy and asked her any other way then she is asking me to pay 12 months payment at once, i just want to know whether it is worth funding over there, as i don't want my earnings goes into wrong hands, please give any suggestions for that...

I got call from a person names Thiru from the number[protected] ans he asked to give check of 650 rs and it will auto debited for next 12 months. He said they are supporting only child patient but in their sites they are posted pic and stories or old peoples. Full of confusions. I have also said this but he said for advertisment purpose they posted those adds..

I have also received the similar call from Sight saver, i am keen to know the location of the head office, is it a Indian based NGO or off shore based NGO and whether the amount is used inside INDIA or all over the world, adding to it will be helpful to know how the the donation amount received from our side is used. As it is said in the call my donation amount will be used to a single child and that child is waiting for my donation for the treatment, what that means ?.
I am having a feeling of 50:50 percent of positive opinion on this. I will be happy to get a answer on this.

Represetatives from Sightsavers India contacted about a month back regaring donations. Due to miscommunication, I had agreed to pay, not realizing that it was on a per month basis. On realizing it I immediately contacted the representative asking him to cancel the same as I would not be able to donate that amount every month. He said he would do something about it. This was the status about a month back. But today(10/01/2016), I received a message saying that debit will start 11/01/2016. So clearly, my cancellation request has not been honoured.
I had provided cancellation informaton well ahead in time and the user institution is supposed to honor the cancellation of ECS mandate.

In the receipt thy have mentioned office address, but no contact number.. That to in City like Bangalore, office is not having a contact number?
There was an email and contact detail of Delhi office, no response from them also.
The cheque they ask me to make in the name of 'plan international (India chapter)'.
After some research online, I made my mind and stopped the cheque payment.

I want sightsavers to stop collecting information about Indian citizens, you are a UK based organisation. You need money to do your work but why do you need personal information of Indian citizens? You asked for mobile number, address, email ID, you also have bank details. In these time of machine learning collecting personal information of citizens of another country is questionable. You are here to do social service or collect information?
