I am writing to bring to your attention a serious concern regarding food safety and consumer rights.
Today, I visited the Reliance Mart located near the Sabar Bus Stand in Mysore. During my visit, I observed that expired Good Life branded rice packets — expired by two months — had been opened and mixed with loose rice that was being sold to customers.
When I raised this issue with the store manager and the store in-charge, they claimed to be unaware of the matter and suggested that the rice section staff may have done it "by mistake." However, I find it very difficult to believe that a section-level staff member could independently access, open, and mix a large quantity of expired rice without the knowledge or approval of higher authorities.
This raises serious concerns about the quality control, safety protocols, and overall transparency maintained by such large retail chains. Selling expired food products — especially after tampering and repackaging — is not just unethical but also a clear violation of food safety regulations.
I kindly urge your department to investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action to ensure that such practices are stopped immediately. Customers trust reputed outlets with their health and safety, and such incidents severely damage that trust.
Please treat this matter with urgency and keep me informed of any action taken.
Thank you for your time and attention.
