Jaypee University of Information and Technology is situated in Waknaghat that comes under Distt. Solan of Himachal Pradesh. It is approximately 3 KM far from the Waknaghat chowk which is chandigarh-shimla main highway. Till 2019, the taxi fare for this 3 KM distance was rupees 100. Then the fare was increased to rupees 150, which was still acceptable. But now after lockdown the fare has increased to rupees 200. As the bus services from waknaghat chowk to JUIT aren't available at regular intervals, So we students have to take the local taxis to travel this 3KM distance. At student level, rs200 just for 3kms is way too much for us. We resisted this irregular hikes to these taxi drivers so many times, but they didn't listen. It is our helplessness to use these local taxis as we don't have any options. We understand that taxi fare is a source of income for local drivers as well but it shouldn't be this high which the students can't pay.
