[Resolved]  Western Digital — WD My Passport External HD stuck at Formatting

My WD My Passport 1TB stopped working all of a sudden. I just got it 3 months ago. The computer recognizes the hard drive and when I went to Disk Management the file system says RAW. The light just keeps on blinking. I've been looking for solutions online and I got answers that said that I should try making a new partition. I deleted the old and made a new one and now I'm formatting it and it seems to be stuck. I think there should be progress shown somewhere but mine just says "Formatting". I didn't do a quick format by the way. Should I just cancel the format or do I have to wait because I started 5 hours ago and nothing's happened. And the light is not blinking anymore now but the computer still detects the hd. What does that mean? I don't really care about the data anymore. I just want my hd to work again...

Hi Thakurv459,
I am glad to help you out. Based on your post, it may be a hardware issue. For your information, there might be a bad sector in the HDD; due to that its stuck during format. I’d suggest you, just cancel the format and unplug the HDD. After that plugin and reformat the HDD with quick format option. If you are unable to do format, I give you some more basic steps that may help you to solve the issue.

1) Go into Disk Management and in the bottom-right panel look for a ribbon which labelled as RAW and has no drive name.
2) For Assign the letter, right-click on that & choose Change Drive Letters and Paths.
3) Click Add and accept the default letter or choose preferred letter from list.
4) Click OK.

If possible, try to connect WD My Passport with another working computer and run the Windows Data Lifeguard Diagnostics in system. Please refer to the link below for Windows Data Lifeguard Diagnostics:

If you still facing the problem, you can check our warranty and RMA policy.
