I purchased my bike on 15th May 2019, and have ridden it for around 5000 km. Today (15th March 2023) I went to the Yamaha Dealer (near Domlur Flyover, Bengaluru) and told him about my problems applying the front brake; the brakes apply partially, and it takes a very long time for the bike to come to a complete halt. Upon telling the mechanic this, he pressed the brake once and said that the ABS motor has failed and will need a replacement.
I asked the price and he quoted 12K, the price sent a chill down my spine (and my wallet).
Shocked by the price and intrigued by the situation I asked the guy "What is the reason for this failure?" For which I did not get a satisfactory answer. He told me all of the states a bike could possibly be in less braking, more braking, hard braking, braking in stages...and many more states.
After asking him a couple more times what could be the reason for this and are there any alternatives, he said to me at last that, he has seen most of the FZS v3 coming down with this issue and assured me that there is one right now in the service center waiting for the part to come (they did not have it in stock).
I did not submit my bike, as this situation seemed unfair to me, as a consumer.
After coming back, I opened the bike manual and saw that there are fuses in place for the ABS system which can and should be replaced if they go bad (picture attached).
Now I have 2 complaints here:
1) If there is an alternative to fix the ABS system. Why was this not suggested to me? I get it that the fuse might be perfectly fine and there is a defect in the motor. But WHY was the replacement of the part, the first and only option given to me?
2) After coming back from the SC, I googled the problem and it came back with a couple of results, that were basically testimonials from other users saying that they too have faced the same issue. Now clubbing this information with the statistics the SC guy gave me about the failure of ABS in FZS-v3. Shouldn't Yamaha be liable to give a free replacement for the same? After all the parts (mechanical or electrical) should be properly checked and then put into production. It CAN NOT be a coincidence that multiple FZS-v3 face the exact same problem after 3 years.
