[Resolved]  Barclays Card & ICICI Lombard — Harassment By Collectors

This issue dates back to this year Feb08 when I applied for a Barclays Card and the application was approved on Feb21 I suppose. I did not receive the card as the courier person sent it back to Mumbai after making attempts (that’s what they claim). Subsequently I called your application status phone # and your customer service phone# and spoke with several agents, managers and Area manager (So he claimed) and they all promised that the card with be reissued and sent to me in 7-10 days. I waited for over a month but the card did not arrive. I called them again with no resolution. In the mean time I received a bill for Rs. 3000 change asking me to pay up. I have not received a Braclays card and I do not even know how a Barclays card looks like. I spoke with one of your reps and was asked to contact ICICI Lombard and cancel the insurance. I did that the same day and received an interaction#[protected]. The ICICI rep said that he will intimate Barclays and the charge would be taken off and I DO NOT have to pay for the insurance. I would like to inform you that ICICI your insurance partner has cheated me by informing me that the insurance charge was Rs. 240 change and charged me Rs.3400 change. I have spoken with 2 different collections reps (One from Chennai and Mumbai). I repeatedly told them that I am not responsible for the charge as I do not have the card. I have been receiving SMS, automated calls (at 8:59AM when I am asleep at my night shift).The total experience has been excruciating. I have tried calling your numbers Mumbai[protected], Delhi[protected], Chennai[protected] but with no response. I received an email which says that I am a defaulter and I will be reported to Credit Information Bureau India Ltd. (CIBIL). I would be reporting Barclays with the consumer court and would be reporting about your fraudulent ways to the Times Of India. If you would want to resolve this issue amicably I need a written apology from you and an email from the Head Of Barclays customer support/Collections that I do not owe you anything. I tried reaching you (S.V.Narayan @ [protected]).

I also had the same kind of experience, I used the card for 3500 and the min amount due was 280, since i was out of station and could not make the payment on time and my next billing date was also near, i called the customer service and informed them that i would make the complete payment once i receive the current month statement. My due date was Jan 08 2011, However I started receiving calls from Jan 18 2011, The executive told me to make a payment of at least Rs.500 and they would stop calling. Believe me I received more than 50 phone calls from 9AM to 9PM. They would all speak the same thing and would DEMAND for Immidiate payment. The even threaten to keep calling if no payment was made. It was painful to keep picking up calls every 15 mins and keep saying the same thing different executives. On Jan 19 while i was travelling to office on my 2 wheeler I got a call, i almost couldnt avoid but picked up the phone when i got hit by a car that passed by. Thank god that i did not lose my life that day. it just ended with a dis-located leg and a few bruises. Inspite of informing the same to the executive, they kept on calling me repeatdly in 15 mins duration stating that the system is dialing the number and they are not. They also told me that they cant help if i am in a hospital and they cannot stop the calls from coming. After all the struggle I made a payment of 1000 and thought that it will stop, however they still started calling me every 15 mins and insisting that they did not receive the payment. I even provided the Payment reference #. It almost 3 days and calls dont stop. Later one executive calls and tells me that the next statement has been generated and the min due is 1030, where you have paid 1000 you need to pay the remaining 30rs to avoid us calling. My due date to make the 1030 is actually Feb 08 2011. and they are harassing very badly for the payment not understanding that i am in the hospital.

If I did not make a payment and my last payment was several months old, then i understand how desprite the bank could get to collect the payment. But it just a week past the due date and all this harassment. I had been using the card for at least 3 years and never missed out a single bill, i always made the complete payment on time. They did not consider this as a fact and were very rude. I don know if i can take this legally. But I will surrender back the card for sure. The bank has no respect for its customers even if they have been prompt in payment over the years. I feel that the RBI reglations for Credit Collection is only for documentation and never a rule to be followed. A common man can not get justice for all the harassment and rudeness shown.

It only Value for Money and Money is what people have become. We call ourselves brothers and sisters and do not value them.
