[Resolved]  Bmtc — Senior citizen age reduction for Travel concession

Address:Bangalore, Karnataka

Dear sir,
The age prescribed by the central govt for obtaining concession for travelling by train for senior citizen is 60years. The same should be applicable everywhere for similar facilities like road transport , air , etc.
But, in Karnataka, for travelling by Busses of KSRTC and BMTC It has been fixed as 65yrs.what is the basis for this? It was 60 yrs earliar. It was modified to 65yrs during 2008.The age at retirement which is 58 to 60 yrs should have been considered for providing concession for bus travel. Thus the Govt should encourage senior citizens to travel by bus than other mode of transport. This also helps in reduction in pollution and saving of petrol and thus the precious foreign exchange. The govt should also encourage people using the busses by giving a concession of 25% for senior citizens as is done by rail authorities in India. This is quite a reasonable demand and the Govt should impliment it immediately.
Presently no concession is given to the senior citizens for the DAY PASSES. The above concession should be extended to the Day Passes also.
At present the monthly passes are issued from 1st to 10th of every month. Instead it should be issued all through the month viz any day of present month valid till the same day of next month. With this there will not be any loss to the Govt, and more people will go for the passes. This will also reduce the pilferage and the problem of issuing tickets in the busses. The govt should accept any standard ID proof with photo( Driving licence, Voter ID, Passport,Bank Passbook etc ) instead of ID card from the BTS or KSRTC as accepted by the railways.

It is regret to point that the most of the conductors do not accept Personal documents such as Voter ID card, Driving license, Pan
card, ID card issued by KSRTC etc are honoured for substantiating age claim. Further, they claim they do not have any information on the same. Request you to update the same to them.
Sir,

Is it necessary that a person should attain 65/60 years of age "IN KARNATAKA ONLY" to be eligible for Senior Citizen Card and for concession in BMTC buses? I am told to submit Aadhar Card or Voter ID card issued in Karnataka, for such card and for concession
in BMTC buses. Is it correct? Like Railways, is a proof of age by any document issued in ANY STATE can not be acceptable? Please clarify.
BMTC conductors are not aware of Senior citizen concession !!! Karnataka government should take immediate action for this !!
BMTC is not accepting Election voter card as proof of age. Obviously the MD is ignorant . Hence it is advisable that aggrieved challenge in a district consumer forum claiming damages/loss since this amounts to deficiency of service as service provider is charging a price in excess of the price
Senior citizens have no respect in BMTC buses whether for their reserved seat or concession in fare. . The conductors do not accept senior citizen cards like PAN Card, Voter Id card driving license etc. BMTC is not doing anything for this. I am fed up with this and do not avail the concession. The passengers are not able to challenge the conductor by showing the directives issued and they care least for the passengers.. My suggestion is that the senior citizen cards acceptable for ticket concession should be prominently displayed in the buses like other notification so that the conductor cannot deny the concession. . I have suggested this earlier also. The senior citizens do not have to fight with the conductor for their rights . It is high time that this is implemented immediately as it would help the senior citizens. This harassment is going on for years and it is high time to stop this.
Today me and wife who are senior citizen boarded bmtc bus and asked conductor to issue concessional ticket but he did not accept aadhaar as document and charged full. It is surprising that so important Aadhaar is useless in Karnataka's BMTC. Bmtc management may look into and issue necessary directives.

The plight of senior citizens at the mercy of BMTC conductors continues...unabated. On 11/12/2018, I travelled from Bangalore to chickaballapur, the conductor accepted the Govt of Karnataka Staff ID from the Health and Family welfare dept, and issued me the senior citizen ticket at Rs.51.00.
The return journey was a different story, the conductor refused the state governments ID card with the date of birth, saying there is no number on the card. I gave him Drivers licence which again showed the Date of birth, which He bluntly refused and asked for other documents.
I was forced to pay for the full fare of Rs.64.00 to the sadistic conductor.
I showed him the press note issued by BMTC, which was published in the news papers a few months back, including the ID's issued by State/central Govt with DOB, DL etc, which he refused to even acknowledge and said show me a circular issued by BMTC,
It is high time that a copy of circular to be pasted in all the buses. And the concerned staff be educated.
I am enclosing a photograph showing both the tickets as well as ID's being carried by me.on the journeys on 11/11/18.
