[Resolved]  Hyundai i20 — Steering & Suspension Noise

I bought the I 20 Asta, 1.4 CRDI E-III (17 digit number: MALBB51SR9M104098) in October 2009. My belief then was that Hyundai was relaible, sturdy & durable which pushed me to cross the 7L mark price for a hatch back, a slightly steep price for a diesel hatch. However, today I am thoroughly disappointed with the product & have lost faith in Hyundai. The product has not delivered even close to the expectation when it comes to durability & reliability. The service standards & the approach of the company authorities towards certain issues which are ‘manufacturing defects’ and have appeared in almost all batches of I 20 , have left me rather disappointed & let down !
0-600 KMS Run:
-The car was a pleasure to drive & the gear shift & clutch was smooth & functioned like the car I test drove before booking one last October.
-The only issue that I started suspecting at this stage was a shaky suspension & a very mild rattle on the steering while driving over bumpy roads & pot holes.
At[protected] KMS RUN:
-The drive & the pickup of the car was as good as it was when new
-However, the front left suspension or the shocker probably started making a loud BANG ‘Katak’ kind of sound if the left side encountered a deepish pot hole or a sudden sharp bump
-The overall suspension felt more bumpy & shakier than before
-The steering rattle noise when driving over bumpy uneven roads had increased considerably & on mentioning the same at first service at Hindustan Hyundai I was told its negligible & will not increase & that I should ignore it.

At[protected] KMS RUN:
-The front left suspension/shocker bang-‘Katak’ sound became a regular feature whenever the left tyre ran into a little pot hole & seemed like a definite manufacturing/design issue
-The steering rattle noise became stronger & more apparent & the vibrations on the steering increased significantly
-The suspension become more shaky & vibrations in the cabin increased considerably

At[protected] KMS RUN:
-The front left suspension issue & noise continued
-The steering noise increased more & had to be looked into at 2nd service & vibrations increased
-The average dropped by 1.5 -2 kms/ltr
-The clutch became much harder than before (& there was no clutch riding as I drive the car on my own)
-The brakes started making a weird uncomfortable noise
-The suspension seemed to have become softer & the vibrations on the slightest of bumps became bigger
-The pick up dropped & the engine noise increased significantly

When I Approached the Service Centre for 2nd service & complaint redressal-Hindustan Hyundai, Jaipur on the 9th Sep 2010:
There was chaos & confusion & there was no one to attend to me in the 1st 15 mins. After 15-20 mins a supervisor approached me & another person drove my car like with utmost rashness with screeching & skidding like he was on a ‘car drifting’ holiday. The manager seemed helpless & casual & I was committed 2 hours time for the service, when I reached at 11 AM.
The mechanic changed the ‘Air Filter’, the ‘Oil Filter’, The engine oil etc & gave me an estimate of Rs. 3600 & then hesitantly asked informed me that it would take long if I wanted to get the steering done, when I said I was willing to wait, he opened up the steering column put some Greece etc & then put a pad etc (a direction given to all dealers by Hyundai). On the test drive at 5PM we realized the noise had increased & the steering had become even harder & had more vibrations than before. When I told the manager about the issue & how this was a defect across cars in India (a reading from online forums/reviews of 50-60 users), Mr. manger casually asked the mechanic to apply more Greece, when I questioned the logic I was told to come again the next day & that the service centre had no further solutions & they would mail the technical team & get back to me.
Today on the 13th Sep 2010 when no one go back to me I called up Mr. Manager & there was no response till late evening when I called up again. He told me to come to the service centre & realized himself that the noise had increased further but had no solution & asked the mechanic to put the car on lift to tighten the screw under the car post which there was no difference in the steering.
Post some hard talk I was given the number for the APSM Mr.Vikrant, who told me that the steering would get replaced but failed to give guarantee of non occurance as the same kind of stering would be put in the car.
The service centre informd me it doesn’t have the parts & also as I read across reviews online, changing the sterring has not solved the problem for innumerable users across India so not sure how a new steering with the same technology & design will help.
The steering problem is left un solved & all other problems mentioned above have still not even been looked into.
I am left thoroughly disappointed with the casual attitude of the company towards such a serious problem in a premium hatch back!

Leaves me with ONLY one option- TO LODGE A COMPLAINT IN THE CONSUMER COMPLAINT FORUM on rounds of inconvenience & an inferior offering which does not meet the committed standards of sercive & product elivery!!
All good companys-HONDA/TOYOTA etc have called back cars with such manufacturing issues !
Please help & assist with a reasonable & permanent solution if some sensitive /responsible Hyundai person is reading this !!

Katak Sound with Front wheel while it goes on BAD roads.
Chk your Steering Rack. Issue may because of the play in Steering rack junctions.
Same problem is with me, I i running i20 Megna modle, Big problem in suspenction. cuurrent running is only 31000 KM. Its a huge proble with Hyundai. I am going to cell my i20. Wrost car. anyone is interted to get please call on [protected]. 2010 Megna modle.

I am an owner of I20 magna, manufactured Aug 2010, its giving me a very hard time with front suspension, please suggest a resolution for it as its very disturbing, I have only driven 20000KMS, which I do not think should be a concern for suspensions to go faulty at this certain point. please suggest something for this dissatisfaction

I also have a Hyundai i20 year 2010... and have been facing same issue... but service centre does not have any concrete solution for same. Each time they say "Underbody lubrication" has to be done". But this resolves the issue only for 1 day.

I have bought New Elite i20 1.4l asta car in Jan 2015. I am having "KARAK" sound in bump and also having sound during right turn whih bump right side wheel got " TAK TAK" sound. Check with service person they told all the nuts in lower arm and connecting levers tightened. but after some time i have repeated problem. Please help

The same issue had started since 2013 and was discussed with an engineer at Modi Hyundai service center thane however, as instructed by Hyundai the engineer convinced me to let go stating the issue wouldn't impact the performance of the car. Today, the left noise 'katar katak' has been a major issue. Please let me know what could be done to ensure more awareness of this issue to each and every i20 user. Off late I am also joining the forum with similar complaint. After driving a new car for some days, my 4 years old i-20 Petrol Magna looks like 10 years old with rattling sound, may be due to worn out bushes. Due to high population of Hyundai cars in every city no workshop is focusing on problems/defects in the car. For normal servicing they charging around Rs.6000 and if you complain any minor problem they immediately respond with a pleasant smile and assure that they support you by charging very nominal and discounted rate of another Rs.10000. I am using the vehicle at the cost of dealer's thirsty for money. Top Hyundai management does not bother about old customers and they only monitor sales volumes across the country.

I need your suggestions or feedback from you guys..

I owned second hand i20 CRDI sportz 2012 Model.

Below are the following problem which I am facing now.

1. 2nd gear pickup prob.- I dunno what exactly the prob. When I'm driving the vehicle in traffic road, my car unable to take the normal pickup in 2 nd gear, I have to release the clutch slowly n even though the car gets vibrated ven it goes to second gear for a while, the pickup is tooo low I have to change to 1st gear, n while crossing the humps also I ve to go for 1st gear to cross the humps.
when it takes the turbo, the car bcmes soo speedy n awsme. Even I can't expect the speed that much I m getting it ven it turbo in switch on condition.
But I never had a prob like dis in my previous cars like Toyota etios, Tata indica and innova..
please suggest what exactly the prob.? How I can fix it.? What I need to replace the spare from my vehicle, what is the approx. Cost?

2. Rack/column/suspension sound:
Ven I am driving in off road condition stirring gets noise of kat kat. N this issue I would nt found in highway.
please suggest me, what is the exact prob. How I can fix this prob. What I would need to replace the spare. What would be the approx. Cost

3. AC prob.
I have given my vehicle for servicing, that time I ve explained the problem about AC, service advisor has told me he ll check the level 2 AC n let us c..he checked it n nt fixed up so he has further moved to AC gas filling even that I would not found much cooling effect whole I can accept 40% AC is ok. Now the prob is still it is there n saying there is level needs to be done that means dashboard need to be opened n check then the prob can b fixed.
is this option is ok r what I shud do. Pls suggest me

COMPLAINT AGAINST KETAN MOTORS

AFTER GETTING THE SERVICED FROM KETAN MOTORS, NAGPUR MUSIC SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING & EPS SYSTEM STOPPED. ALL THESE PROBLEMS TOOK PLACE AFTER 2 DAYS OF SERVICING.

Subject: Replacing of steering motor.

It is brought to your notice that my car i 20 on 31st December, 2011. After some time, steering was very hard and therefore I took it to the Hundai show room (Birla jn, Visakhapatnam, AP) on 17th March, 2015. The service people in the show room suggested me to replace the steering motor and I did as per their suggestions and the steering motor replacement has been done on the same day. Again, the same problem arouse with that steering motor on 29th November, 2016. So I request you to replace the steering motor for free of cost or at a discounted price.

Date of first replacement of steering motor: 17th March, 2015 where reading is 25, 171 KM
Now issue arouse after 30, 000 KM (i.e., just after 4, 829 KM).

I have the same issues. My i20 is a 2012 model.
I had my car at Hyundai and I was told it is going to cost me R8000.00. do they think I have that kind of money laying around. The services cost a arm and leg too.
Even i am facing the same issue with Hyundai i20 Petrol. Even if my car is under warranty they have asked me to pay the charges for the parts. For suspension joint rod and steering wheel belt part, they have charged me. Still the noise persists. The clutch gets harder and still they want payment for clutch repair even under warranty.

And if this is the case where we have to replace all the parts of hyundai vehicle then what kind of premium segment car is this ?

If we have to pay for everything then what kind of warranty is they provide ?
