[Resolved]  ICICI Bank — Account freeze due to Mumbai Floods Loss of documents

Dear Sir,

I am an NRI living overseas. Recently I came to know that my NRE account has been debit frozen.

When I called-up ICICI Bank, I was told that they have lost my account opening documents in 2005 Mumbai floods. Since they don't have my documents, they have debit frozen (cannot withdraw money) the account.

The Bank happily continues to accept my overseas remittances while freezing the withdrawl. This means my funds are locked-up by ICICI Bank for no fault of mine.

The irony is the Bank made no attempts to reach me in this regard so far and froze the account without proper notification.

I wanted to know how should a consumer like me suffer for the negligence on the part of the Bank.

Myself is the holder of FDR No. 02/CD03007298 and A/c. No. 0115759 matured on 15.4.06. I wrote several application to M/s.Escorts Finance Ltd. at Delhi office and its Branch office at Kolkata but I am unable to receive any reply from them. As I am a cancer patient and suffering from acute cancer since 2005 and the attending physician has advised me for medical operation at Mumbai but due to financial crunch I am unable to go to Mumbai. Giving the aforesaid conditions, I wrote several letters with the medical certificates and talked to one Shri S.D.Sharma having Phone No.[protected] but they never heard my prayer on medical ground and I am unable to receive an amount of Rs. 26, 620/- as on date mentioned above plus the interest accrued till date. I, therefore, pray sympathetically before you to kindly take up the matter with the Escorts Finance Ltd. to get the said FDR amount paid to me at the earliest so that I could proceed to Mumbai for treatment of cancer being suffered by the undersigned for the last 4 years.
