[Resolved]  Spice Jet Airlines — Bookings are non-refundable

SPICEJET AIRLINES

I booked two Spice Jet tickets to travel from Kolkatta to Chennai - Aug 15 2009. Today is July 3 2009. I called the Spice Jet customer care to cancel the ticket.

I did not fly due to a personal reasons and was unable to inform Spicejet 2 hrs prior to the flight time for a reschedulement as per their requirement for which they charge an amount.

I requested to Refund of Taxes and Fees from ticket price. They said No not possible. They are eating Indians Money to become big gaints in India.

Spicejet says in its terms and conditions on its webpage http://www.spicejet.com/tnc.asp - "Bookings are non-refundable: Failure to show up for the flight at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure will result in the fare being forfeited". Or due to some unavoidable reason, If we cancel a ticket prior to 2 months, they will not give the money back.

As a frequent flier with various airlines, I have knowledge that Jet, Sahara, KF airlines and few others pay back the entire taxes and even 10% of the airline base fare for a 'no-show' or no flying and no information till the time of departure of flight.

Hence i dispute the logic that should cause Spicejet to not pay me back the taxes amount for a flight (service) that i have not availed at all.

They can only have a right on their fare - high or low, not on the tax & fee component to the government. It must be noted that airlines always advertise their fare as Rs 0 or Rs 500 etc. never mentioning the tax of Rs 2025 upwards that anyhow will be levied on the customer. How can they then forfiet the tax portion under any arbitrary company policy of theirs? SpiceJet has duped many customers who are not aware of other airlines. I am contemplating lodging a complaint with the Consumer Forum.

Please take necessary action to get me the TAX money paid by me to SPICE JET. Since I'm not availing the facility, they will not pay the TAX to Govt. Simply they enjoy the money with no service.

Thanks,
Jeyaseelan V

I too had a similar experience recently.

I had been booked by a Spice Jet flight for CCU to Delhi on the 12th April 2010.Due to personal reasons I could not take the flight. While other airlines under such circumstances refund the tax, only forfeiting the base fare, Spice Jet has been given exclusive right to forfeit the entire amount.

This is strange and I wish that consumer forum takes some concrete action, since apparently on the complaint raised by my fiend in July 2009, there is no change in the stance even obne year has passed.
Sir,

Please let me know the outcome of this complaint. Was your money refunded? Also what is the response if we register a complaint here?

Yesterday, we missed our flight. We were group of 10 people with 1 infant, 3 yr, 4.5yr & 5.5 yr kids with us, Our flight was at 10:30am from coimbatore to hyderabad. We reached the spicejet counter at 10am, we are were denied check-in stating late arrival. The staff was very impolite though we were requesting for help from them to show some courtesy as we had infants and kids. One baggage was checked in front o[censored]s, and they claimed that this belonged to the person who already checked in. Not sure how they can amend rules for one not for others.

We were checking for other available options to reach hyderabad. Next available flight was jet airways @11000 per ticket that afternoon and spicejet flight SG 1022 at 6:55pm @ nearly 7000 per ticket. We were told only 12 seats were available. We rushed to book the tickets as all the kids were tired and we were tired too as we were returning from 5 days tour and dead tired to reach our home. Even this flight we had bad experience. On borading there were several (more than 5 seats ) vacant. Flight was delayed by 30 mins. Realaly very annoyed with spciejet and their crew. No proper response, very impolite and arrogant ground staff. We suffered a lot for late arrival of 15 minutes.

Thanks,
Raghava
