ICICI Bank — Name spelling correction

Address:New Delhi, Delhi, 110 017
Website:ICICI Bank

My father is 83 years old and opened an account with ICICI bank more than 10 years ago. His first name is spelt Autar but it was wrongly printed as Avtar in his old PAN card and his account was opened by ICICI bank in the name Avtar. I recently noticed this mistake and asked him to get it corrected but ICICI Bank asked him to provide a gazette notification for change of name even though he provided them with a PAN card and Adhaar Card with his name spelt as Autar. They refused to correct the spelling on his first account and opened a second account in his correct name Autar. He could have closed his first account except that my father has many fixed deposits linked to his first account and to shift them to the new account with the correct name would require breaking the deposits causing loss of interest.

Despite all the professionals at its disposal the bank does not seem to understand that variations to the spelling of a name and change of name are two different matters. A name may be spelt differently on different documents as the typists were not very careful in the old days so different spellings of a name may prevail at the same time whereas a change of name is a conscious decision by an individual to alter their name on a given date. The matter was escalated within ICICI bank but I keep getting a reply that gazette notification is required. I keep saying to them that he has not changed his name but they don't seem to have commonsense.

My father is a Wealth Management customer and now has two accounts in ICICI bank, old one in the name Avtar and a new account in the name Autar. Both accounts have the same photo, date of birth, signature, PAN No, residential address, netbanking login but they are treating him as two different individuals even though the branch staff know that it one and the same person. He had the same problem with some of accounts in the Public Sector banks but they rectified his name across the counter based on his Adhaar and new PAN card. The public sector banks seem to understand the difference between variations in spelling of a name and change of name. ICICI first told me it was RBI requirement then when I confronted them with the process in the Public Sector Banks they changed their position and said it was their own Bank policy. I keep getting a lakir ke phakir response that a gazette notification is bank policy. They seem to have no provision for name correction only change of name as they don't seem to understand the difference between the two.

I am facing the same issue. My name in all the documents is "Tejswini" and they have entered in the bank record as "Tejaswini" and they are also asked me for the gazette copy. Though at the time of account opening I have submitted the documents with the correct spelling "Tejswini".
I am facing a similar problem but no help from the bank

As a Director of a Pvt Ltd company I am facing the same issue for my company's 4 year old current account with ICICI Bank in New Delhi.

My surname spelling in all the documents is "VARMA" which in previous PAN issued was spelled as "VERMA" due to typing mistake. I could get it corrected recently and a new PAN card with correct surname spelling has been issued by IT Deptt. I have submitted all the forms & documents to our ICICI Bank home branch twice for surname spelling correction - Jan & Mar 2018 along with all the originals of PAN & ADHAR for verification but they are terming it is not a correction of spelling but 'Change of Name" and insisting on the Gazette Notification requirement - very time consuming, tedious and expensive process.

As all the bank accounts are to be Adhar linked the only alternative left to us in the face of such illogical, impractical, unhelpful and indifferent attitude of ICICI Bank is to close our company current account with them and open it with some other Bank.
It appears that ICICI bank is above all the public sector banks. They harp on the same string without understanding the problem.

My minor daughter's account was opened as Muskan based upon her school id mentioning name as Muskan.

Now, in every other document i.e. 10th school certificate, aadhar card, PAN card all the details are same except that name has added one extra 'a'.Name is now MUSKAAN.
I went with all these documents, affidavit and name change publication in 2 news papers. Still they will say we require gazzettee notification or close your old account and open new account.

Now, I have some SIPs linked with this account, and if it is closed, it will create difficulties.

Is there any solution.
In my case i dont even have spelling mistake, i just want my middle name incuded in my bank account, for that also they are demanding gazette notification for name change. Ridiculous really !
Same issue where my initial is not included. So they asked me to close my account and open a new account which is really annoying.
I am facing the same problem
I tried to change my name in one of the icicibank Bangalore. They are asking notry and one of the news paper. advertisement copy. ###.
I am also facing the same issue, how they do verify the name against the documets if the concern, My name is Anshuk Sharma and my account have Annshuk Sharma which is wrong, tried multiple time an they are asking to make sign from gadzet officers, why should i do that as i have a proof of my name in goverment id card.
