On 4 October 2026 I rented 6 furniture items from Rentomojo for 3 months: Henry 1-seater sofa, Elvi Motorized Height Adjustable Table, Napster single bed, single spring mattress, fibre pillow and Magnum 2-door wardrobe (Rs 3, 812/month, deposit Rs 2, 907). Every item was shown as available for my PIN code. Rentomojo took my payment, sent an 'Order Confirmed' email, ran a credit check and sent 'Verification Successful' the same night, promising delivery in 2 to 5 days.
By the next morning the app showed 'Delivery on Hold. 4 items in your ticket are currently out of stock. Replace it or wait for it to restock - your delivery won't be scheduled unless you complete this step.' The motorized table, bed, mattress and pillow are now 'unavailable'. Even the sofa and wardrobe, which are in stock, will not be delivered unless I accept substitutes. The only 'alternatives' for the motorized sit-stand table are ordinary fixed-height tables, which are not the product I paid for. No restock date is given.
I wrote to [protected]@rentomojo.com twice on 5 October with screenshots. Both emails got only automated acknowledgements and no human reply, despite Rentomojo's own promise of a 24-hour response.
Showing products as available, taking payment and then forcing a downgrade is bait and switch. It is a deficiency in service and an unfair trade practice under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, and breaches the E-Commerce Rules 2020. I have registered a grievance with the National Consumer Helpline (docket[protected] and am preparing a complaint before the District Consumer Commission.
What I want: delivery of the Elvi motorized height-adjustable table or an equivalent or better motorized sit-stand desk at the contracted rent, a comparable bed and spring mattress, and the rest of my order, within 7 days, with the rental tenure starting only from full delivery. No downgrade or cancellation without my written consent.
Other customers: check stock carefully before paying Rentomojo, because 'available' on the site may not mean anything once your money is taken.
