SBI — Displayed invalid username and password

The state bank of india has sent me the user name in in 8 digits through sms in the registered mobile phone and password was sent by post. While i am attempting two times to create my account for accessing the internet banking by using the same supplied by them, it displayed invalid user name and password. To my surprise the sent me message that my user name 77* (9 digits) has left only one attempt. So there is a contradiction between the two message. My father was using internet banking at sbi more than for the last 10 years and i consulted him but no conclusion.

Updated by RUSTUM KONJENGBAM I have my hesitation that whether they are sending the user name in 8 digits or 9 digits. If in such secured banking system the system administrator should take the matter seriously otherwise the customer will take it unreliable to all and create confusion to the present trend of IT components of the bank.
