Chalo Jaai – Worst Experience…Never tour with them
In May this year I booked Himachal Pradesh package tour through Chalo Gaai, one of big tour operators in Kolkata. I have toured with many tour operators in the past, but this was the worst experience for me on an organized tour! The kind of experience I went through dealing with Chalo Jaai, right from booking stage to post tour interaction was simply worst.
My personal recommendation is to avoid Chalo Jaai at any cost. They cannot provide promised good accommodation, good food, comfortable travel and good coverage of the destination – in short meet basic expectations. Chalo Jaai as concluded by all the tour members (customers) on this tour is a mis-managed, un-professional tour company providing worst possible service for the premium amount they charge.
*********How Chalo Jaai cheated on this tour:**************
~Cheap Hotel Selection~:
During booking process, it was assured by Chalo Jaai that good star like hotel accommodation would be provided during the tour. Whereas except Shimla, condition of hotel accommodation provided by the tour operator was so bad and poor that nobody could imagine also. In Manali, they forced us to stay in a unhygienic damp room which is not even a hotel also.
~Food~:
One of the reasons for most of customers to select Chalo Jaai was the promise to provide very good food on all days of the tour. The food that was served on most of the days was either inadequate or poor quality, with absolutely no choice available. The most surprising fact was while returning from Amritsar to Kolkata by train, no food was provided to us and we had to arrange our food from running pillar to post. They were not even bothered to arrange food for our babies.
~Worst Tour Guide/Manager~:
The manager of the tour was never accessible. He was not bothered to listen to anybody's problem or requirements.
For the heavy price that the we paid on this tour had to pay in terms of time, money, mental peace and above all ruining family vacation, all the tour members were mentally very upset after returning from the tour. The entire episode has left us with most traumatic experience of being cheated by Chalo Jaai for our hard earned money.

I booked Arunachal Pradesh package tour through Chalo Jaai Travel Club, one of big tour operators in Kolkata and toured Guwahati, Bhalukpong, Dhirang, Bomdilla & Tawang with them during the post puja vacations this year 2010. I have toured several places in India independently in the past, but this was the horrible experience for me with a ‘reputed’ tour operator. The kind of experience I went through dealing with Chalo Jaai, was simply worst.
The four Tata sumo vehicles booked by the operators for the journey at Guwahati were not in good condition and one or the other broke down during the journey period.
Any package tour's success is totally dependent on the tour manager how he manages the show. The tour manager was unskilled and managed the tour in a poor state. For most of the time he could not arrange to depart from a place of halt according to the scheduled departure time as a consequence of which the tour members reached their destined hotels late at night in this mountaineous North East region. He was not able to coordinate the vehicles booked for the journey. At one instance our vehicle ran short of fuel and we were wondering whether we were able to reach our destined place (Tawang) or spent the whole night on the mountain road side.
Chalo Jaai travel club could not provide good food, comfortable travel and good coverage of the destination – in short meet basic expectations. The most surprising fact was that evening snacks was skipped for few days. Chalo Jaai as concluded by almost all the tour members on this tour is a mis-managed, un-professional tour company providing worst possible service for the premium amount they charge. For the heavy price that the we paid on this tour in terms of time and money, most of the tour members were dissatisfied and mentally very upset after returning from the tour. We underwent a most traumatic experience during the entire period of journey. We feel that we are being cheated by Chalo Jaai for our hard earned money. Some of my co-passengers who have traveled with Kundu Special are of the opinion that the services provided by Kundus are superior and unmatchable.

Chalo Jaai – Worst Experience…Never tour with them
We booked Arunachal Pradesh package tour through Chalo Jaai, one of big tour operators in Kolkata and toured Guwahati, Bhalukpong, Dhirang, Bomdilla & Tawang with them during the post puja vacations this year. I have toured several places in India with other less popular travel agencies in the past, but this was the horrible experience for me with a ‘reputed’ tour operator. Chalo Jaai even cannot match the level of them. The kind of experience I went through dealing with Chalo Jaai, was simply worst/bitter and is listed below.
• We could only start our journey on 20.10.10 from Hotel Ginger, Guwahati at 9:30A.M. much after schedule as the vehicles ( four Tata Sumos) for the journey turned up very late. The sumo vehicle meant for my and another family members was soiled both outside and inside. On the way from Guwahati to Bhalukpong the sumo vehicle on which we were travelling broke down twice and was temporarily repaired.
• On the morning of 21.10.10 at Prashanti cottage, Bhalukpong, Assam breakfast was served to us at 9:30 A.M two hours after the scheduled time, for reasons unknown to us and we could only depart for Dhirang after 10.25 A.M.
• The tour members reached Dhirang at 7:30 P.M. and had to wait in hotel reception hall as the hotel manager refused to allot rooms without the necessary documents which were with the tour manager. It was raining outside and very cold. We could not contact with the Mr. Pralay Das, Chalo Jaai Tour manager as he did not possess any valid mobile connection. The tour Manager finally arrived at 8:30P.M. and informed us about vehicle break-down somewhere on the way. We were then able to check in. We failed to understand why Mr. Das the Chalo Jaai, Tour Manager did not contact any of us or the Hotel Manager from a local PCO to inform about his problem. Neither does Mr. Das did not have the courtesy of apologizing for his fault.
• Similar incidents of serving late breakfast consequently late departure also occurred at Pemaling Hotel, Dhirang. The passengers reached Sela Pass(13, 700 ft) at about 1:20 P.M.and waited for nearly 11/2 hr. in chilling cold for the Tour Manager’s vehicle which was nowhere to be seen. We could not contact the Tour Manager for the same reason of invalid mobile connection and was wondering worse situations which may befall him and the cooks. Neither did Mr. Das had the sense of informing us about his problem. Finally we (the tour members) departed from Sela Pass at 2:50 P.M. to have lunch at a local food stall. Without knowing the route our driver drove us safely to Hotel Siddharth, with the help of local Military.
• The vehicle that was allotted for my and Mr. Ghosh’s family members broke down near Tawang bajar on 23.10.10. The vehicle was repaired and the next day viz. 24.10.10 before leaving for Sangstar Lake Mr. Das, the Tour Manager ensured us that the vehicle is O.K. and all the three Tata Sumos will travel together. Unfortunately, on the way to the said Lake the same vehicle had a mechanical snag which was repaired by removing some filters. All the vehicles resumed journey with the repaired vehicle moving behind. After traveling for some distance the other two vehicles which were in good conditions traveled fast and left us far behind. Mr. Das who was in the middle vehicle did not have any control over the vehicles. While descending towards the Lake from the highest position at Tawang the repaired vehicle fell in a hill side ditch and got stuck. Neither of the other two vehicles were at sight and we with three female members were helpless. Luckily after waiting for half an hour some local people came to our help and they pulled up our vehicle after which we were able to reach the lake.
• We were also misinformed regarding the tour to Bumla Pass from Tawang. It was stated by the authorities at the office of Chalo Jaai, Kolkata that Bumla Pass is inaccessible and local vehicles also cannot reach upto the said pass. But on reaching Tawang we learnt that many tourists traveling with other tour operators have visited Bumla Pass and are very much enjoyed in having a lifetime chance to visit this historical Pass. The same incident happened to us again at the last day of our trip. The other two vehicle left us & we lost our way to Guwahati Stataion, but somehow managed to reach there driving almost extra 50 K.M.
• One of the reasons for most of travelers to select Chalo Jaai was the promise to provide very good food on all days of the tour. The food that was served on most of the days was not good with absolutely no choice available. The most surprising fact was that evening snacks was skipped for few days.
Conclusions ;
Any package tour's success is totally dependent on the tour manager how does he manages the show. The tour manager of this trip Mr. Das was unskilled in his job, arrogant, non-courteous, non-coopeartive, and showed special attention towards a few members with whom he may have some vested interest. He has got no experience of making trips to Arunachal Pradesh even. My personal recommendation is not to travel with Chalo Jaai anymore.
They cannot provide good food, comfortable travel and good coverage of the destination – in short meet basic expectations. Chalo Jaai as concluded by almost all the tour members (customers) on this tour is a mis-managed, un-professional tour company providing worst possible service for the premium amount they charge. For the heavy price that the we paid on this tour had to pay in terms of time, money, mental peace and above all ruining family vacation, most of the tour members were mentally very upset after returning from the tour. The entire episode has left us with most traumatic experience of being cheated by Chalo Jaai for our hard earned money.

I went to HARIDWAR-DEHRADOON-MOOSOURI package on puja of 2009 package and LAVA-LOLEGAON-RISHAP-KALIMPONG package on May-2010 with CHALO JAAI.
The manager of HARIDWAR package was not so good and a little bit of misunderstanding was occured with us. The assistant manager was very good. I know that, the assistant manager has been pomoted to the manager rank of the HARIDWAR package and "THAT MANAGER" has been terminated form the CHALO JAAI.
The manager is the key-person of the tour.
The manager of the LAVA-LOLEGAON-RISHYAP package is very good. He has made century as manager of this package. While the local driver did not agree to go to DELO lake, the manager forced him to go to there. When we reached the DELO lake, we found that no car is allowed into the DELO lake campus as Mr. Bimal Gurung was there. Our manager give his identity and our car was allowed to enter in the campus. Manager requested us not to cross certain boundery and we enjoyed the DELO lake very much. When we leave the DELO lake, we were very satisfied and we found a very long queue of waiting cars to enter the DELO lake campus.
CHALO JAAI is working as a tour operator during last 10 years. This operator tries to rectify itself as-much-as-possible. Some customer may have bitter experience. But that doesn't mean that the CHALO JAAI is a worst. CHALO JAAI tries to send a specific manager to a specific package. As-a-result, that specific manager become strong experienced on that package.

Me and my wife have travelled with 'cholo jai' for the first time during 24th - 26th Dec to 'Udaypur sea beach'.
Unfortunately my experience has not been very good. I feel lack of professionalism and management capabilities among the tour managers.
1) It was communicated prior to the tour that it will be a 2night, 3 day tour, starting on 24th (12:30PM) and returning to Kolkata on 26h night. We were supposed to leave Udaypur after lunch on 26th (by 1:30/ 2 PM)
But actually we have got informed on 25th night that we need to leave all the rooms on 26th by 9:30 AM. And after discussion with the tour managers we have got to know this is the reality that all boarders are required to leave the resort by 9:30 and they have been able to manage it in this way only, requesting the resort managers for 2/3 rooms tokep till 12:30, whic has not been possible this time.
My suggestion would be why then they did not start the journey early on 24th and reach Udaypur by noon, so that people enjoy 3 days rater than 2 days only (as we reached Udaypur by 9 PM on 24th)
2) Quality of food served on 26th lunch was too poor and it was arranged in a low quality hotel in Digha. Given the charge of the tour was 3, 500 per person, the quality of food was not expected. Actually they had to pay for 2 lunches, 2 supper and 2 breakfasts. People could have expected fine quality rice in all the meals at least. Considering the comfort at the bus and food, it seems the margin of profit is too high.
NB: room rent 1000 per night (so 500 per person) is reasonable only.
3) Finally the tour managers did not deal with the crisis situations professionally. Once they try to take the opinion pole for the plan on final day (as per theirstatement, they also did not know that they will not be able to eep the people in th resort till 12) they did the blunder and few tourists took the advantge to plan the rest of the tour at their will. Even during the trvael on final dy, we noticed people were drinking in the bus. Though they tried to hide the fact, but the smell was there. Though it did not create any nuisense and the females (in cases wife, daughter, mother of persons who were drinking) were also fine with it, we did not feel comfortable and i think managers could have asked them not to drink in the bus.
However, i do not know if my expectation from 'Cholo jai' was too high, that's why i feel disappointed. But i would say they could have taken extra from us if they feel quality of bus and food is not possible to increase with the money they have asked for and could have provided more matured and professional tour managers. I personally will not recommend like minded people to travel with Cholo jai unless they make this improvement.

This is the worst travel agency in Kolkata. They simply cheated us. I have travelled with them at Himachal Predesh. They assured us to give best comfort. For this reason, we have booked them. Their package cost is very high. But in reality they have cheated all the travellers. The behaviour of travel Manager is very bad. They did not provide us good accommodation. Most of the time they gave us shared accommodation / dormitory with damp rooms, no hot water and blanket. The food quality is too poor. Even one night we did not take food because we found a cockroach in the food. We have made a complaint to the group manager but he told us, he had nothing to do. This is our horrible experience with Chalo Jaai. I advised all travel hungry people not to go with them because it will be your worst tour.

i have both good and bad experience with 'chalo jai'
in small tour package, the operator provides inexperienced manager, provides transport which is inadequate and accomodation is not up to the mark. This is because in small tour, the profit volume will be less if the minimum standard has to be maintained. So the operator compromise on quality to ensure healthy profit even out of small budget tour.
since the operators are not bothered by such individual complaints, there is no improvement in service.
in a civilised society, there are government control and if there are such complaints, the operators are either forcedto pay adwquate compensation or their registration is cancelled.
can you expect this in our state?

I have two different experience in two different tour with Chalo Jai. First one in Vyzac -Hydarabad, Jan'10, it was well organized, provided good food, accommodation and well behavior of the manager is so appreciable. That was the reason for me to booked my second tour with Chalo Jai at Himachal Pradesh (Big) on Nov'10, but i was totally upset in the whole tour due to bad management and poor behavior of the manager. It's my feedback and also as a well wisher of Chalo Jai, please give a proper training to your Manager or recruit experienced Manager for such valued tour, because we all want to enjoy each and every days in our tour without facing any problem.

I went to Rajasthan with Chalo Jaai, and my experience was NOT BAD and NOT VERY GOOD - Overall average.
We can criticize the CHALO JAAI in following basis:
TRAVELERS: If u are above 45, then Chalo Jaai is best for you, as the packages they offer are suited for the age range of 45-75, In our Rajasthan tour, 30 out of 37 people were above 50, and all of them were very happy with everything.
HOTELS: They offered us mixed quality of hotels, what I felt was, when it was stay for only one night, the hotel was good or above average, but while it was for 2 or 3 nights stay, then the quality of hotel were bad or below average.
FOOD: Throughout the tour they served their own cooked food, which me and my wife did not like very much as they were like everyday food u eat at your own home, generally it's Roti, Rice, Daal accompanied with Chicken or Fish, less spicy enough for filling the stomach - and low spices guaranteed that u will not have any stomach trouble :-) and also it's appropriate for the aged persons. We went to local or hotel adjoining restaurants for a change 3-4 days.
TRAVELLING VEHICLES: In Rajasthan they offered us a luxury 2/2 bus without AC, it was above 40 degree outside, but we made the full tour on a Non AC bus, in the first day, the manager asked if we wanted to shift to AC coach, but as most of the tourists were old people, they asked for Non-AC.
AC in Hotels: They offers Non-AC rooms, if u want, u can upgrade to AC for approx extra 300/- per night in most of the hotels.
CONCLUSION: I would suggest the young couple who aims to have a luxury tour, do not go with Chalo Jaai, if you are a middle class traveller and happy with minimum facilities, then u will be very happy, and I have seen most of our elders who are above 45 or 50, they gets happy easily so this company is perfect for them. If your main focus is to see the places and heritages, and do not look around for any luxury, then Chalo Jaai is just perfect.

Dude u Calcuttans need to grow up fast. I am a Bengali from Mumbai and my parents along with a large group from Mumbai and Delhi have toured with chalo jai, they have expressed utter satisfaction at the arrangements and service provided. Heard that Calcuttans are the people who crib for everything. You cannot expect Chalo jai to give u everything at the rates they are giving. Plz check the quotations of other tours and travels . I guess they have provided good service at a reasonable rate.

The fact is CHALO JAAI is not a travel agent but a tour organizer. They organize tour and handed over a third party travel agent and get commission. I am giving an incident. In the year 2003, my 2 friends formed a travel agency. In 2003 puja they got a 13 DAYS tour package of LADAKH from CHALO JAAI. One of my neighbor and his family also went to that tour and returned with a bitter experience. They payed Rs 12000/- per head to CHALO JAAI. After that I came to know that CHALO JAAI transferred that tour to a reputed agency for Rs. 9000/- per head (got his commission Rs. 3000/- per head without doing nothing) and that agency again transferred that tour to my friend for Rs. 7000/-. Now just think how, a tour of Rs 12000/- became Rs. 6000/- (obviously my friend kept his margin Rs. 1000/- per head). So think twice before going with CHALO JAAI. Although you find their banner and camera person (if group contains more than 10).
