Bajaj Auto — Formal Complaint Against Frontier Motors, Jabalpur for Unethical and Coercive Practices Order #[protected]Bajaj Chetak

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this complaint with utmost disappointment regarding the unethical and coercive behavior of your authorized dealer — Frontier Motors (Dealer Code 13495), Plot No. 11/12, Bedinagar, Jabalpur – 482001, contact number [protected] / [protected].

I had ordered a Bajaj Chetak EV 3001 through Amazon.in on 26th October 2025 (Order No.[protected]. The total payment of ₹1, 02, 400 was successfully made via Amazon, and a booking receipt (Ref. ID UBSBRC[protected] was issued by the dealer (copy attached).

However, my experience with Frontier Motors, Jabalpur has been completely unacceptable due to the following reasons:

1. Unlawful Demand for ₹1, 000 “Handling Charges”

I received a call from Mr. Aman (+91 [protected]) from Frontier Motors regarding documentation, who insisted that I must pay ₹1, 000 as a “delivery/handling charge” to process my booking.
I categorically informed him that, as per the official Amazon communication (copy attached), all charges, including delivery, are already covered. No additional amount apart from statutory RTO fees is payable by the customer.
Despite this, I was told that my order would not be processed unless this payment was made, which constitutes a clear case of coercion and extortion under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

2. Forcing Customers to Buy Insurance Through Dealer

I was informed by Mr. Aman and Mr. Manjeet (Manager, Frontier Motors) that if I did not purchase insurance from their “tie-up” company, the delivery of my vehicle would be delayed by at least 10 days, without any legal basis.
This practice directly violates the Supreme Court ruling in Competition Commission of India vs. HDFC Ergo General Insurance Co. Ltd. (2020) and Tata Motors Finance Ltd. vs. Rajesh Tyagi (2017), where it has been clearly held that dealers cannot compel customers to buy insurance from a specific company.
Every consumer has full freedom to choose an insurance provider of their choice.

3. Threat of Order Cancellation

Mr. Manjeet categorically stated that if I refused to pay the handling charge or take insurance from their partner company, my order would be cancelled and that “no one can do anything about it” as this is “the norm followed in Jabalpur.”
Such intimidation amounts to unfair trade practice and violation of Section 2(47) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

4. Illegal Demand of ₹500 for “Subsidy Punching”

I was also informed that I must pay an additional ₹500 for “RTO punching” to process the Government of India EV subsidy, which was already provided under my Amazon booking.
There is no provision in the FAME-II subsidy guidelines that authorizes any dealer to charge customers for this process. This is a fraudulent and baseless demand aimed at extracting money from unsuspecting customers.

5. Clear Violation of Amazon Terms

As per Amazon’s official email (attached),
“You don't have to pay any additional charges to the agency.”
This makes the above demands a direct violation of the Amazon-Bajaj partnership agreement for online Chetak bookings. The dealer’s actions amount to defamation of brand reputation and breach of trust toward Amazon and Bajaj customers alike.

6. Evidence

I possess call recordings of all conversations with the dealer representatives, which can be provided for verification. These recordings clearly demonstrate the coercive tone and fraudulent intent of the dealership staff.

In View of the Above, I Demand:

1. Immediate disciplinary action against Frontier Motors, Jabalpur, for violation of company ethics and consumer protection laws.

2. Written assurance from Bajaj Auto Ltd. that no customer will be asked to pay any additional amount beyond those mentioned on Amazon.

3. Clarification from Bajaj Auto regarding whether such “handling, ” “subsidy punching, ” or “insurance coercion” practices are officially permitted.

4. Compensation for mental harassment and delay caused by the dealership’s misconduct.

Such malpractices severely tarnish Bajaj Auto’s reputation as a trusted brand and discourage customers from purchasing through authorized channels. I expect swift and transparent action from your end to uphold consumer trust and ensure compliance with law.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,
Lt Col Harshit Mahajan
