I am a 26 years old female and i couldn’t get through immigration clearance at cochin airport, cial for bali trip and given reason that i am a solo traveler. I had tickets booked with air asia ak 37 on 25 october 2016 with booking reference number fmn1sat75mo. Bali doesn’t require visa for less than 30 days for tourism purpose. I had the entire itinerary and the return ticket, also the currency exchanged for the journey. When asked what i should do to get the clearance if i try again, i was told that for female travelers they would never give immigration approval. I live in mumbai, so i enquired if i can try from mumbai and i was surprised to know to mumbai immigration team would most probably allow, but cochin team wouldn’t because i am a female. They even admitted that it’s because of the mentality difference. I have lost the amount i spent on flight tickets and hotel bookings, none of those were refundable. I have incurred a loss of approximately rs.25, 000 for which no one is responsible, but only the immigration team. Moreover, the incident has intimidated my confidence and dreams to travel internationally. If safety was their concern, it didn’t make any sense to me, because my safety is at risk even when i am in india about which none of the authorities can guarantee any solution. I was also forced to sign the consent that i was denied clearance because i didn’t have ‘proper’ documents. When enquired why mention lack of ‘proper’ document and not solo female traveler reason, they threatened me that they might write more reasons, so better to sign on that one.
Who is responsible for the compensation of my loss? Is there any legal base for whatever cial immigration team has done?
