[Resolved]  Airtel — SIM Deactivation

My son, who is studying in Manipal, came home to Hyderabad during the winter break. On returning to Manipal, he found his outgoing calls blocked because he had not used the sim for 3 weeks! Obviously, he did not use for 3 weeks because he was in Hyderabad and was using his Hyderabad Airtel prepaid sim. It is pretty easy for Airtel to verify that he was indeed using his Hyderabad SIM on these dates since that was also airtel. However, airtel will not listen to reason.

He was asked to show his ID and other documents and after he produced those, he was asked his Hyderabad address proof!! The only thing we could show was my address proof since there is nothing in Hyderabad in his name (he is barely an adult) and that was rejected.

Later, after I talked to the customer service people, I was told by one Ms. Divya that on producing the manipal documents, things will be resolved. The sim will be deactivated only after 90 days of non-usage.

However, within a day, the sim got permanently disconnected and I was told that the documents were not shown on time even though they were presented long ago.

Clearly, this is a scam by Airtel to make money off anybody swallowing all the money in these prepaid sim cards. So, consumers beware - if this happens, try to get the money from the prepaid cards and run away from airtel. They will prolong the suffering and the end result will also not be in your favour.

My only request is for Airtel to return our money from the sim card (my son had topped the card thinking that was the reason it did not work and airtel gladly accepted that money even though the sim was invalid for other purposes!) and I will not bother them with any more airtel connections.

frustrated,
-krishna

I am a customer of airtel since 2004 and I never faced any kind of problem in postpaid.
I am from Gujarat.Last month I paid my bill immediate on the generation of the bill and told ARC to deactivate the no.
On of the person Mr.Javed, Baroda airtel spoke with me and told me not to deactivate the no and told Airtle will convert it in prepaid and will give special scheme of 0.50paisa all over india on any landline or mobile.

I was being told to submit the documents again to convert it in prepaid.

I did same on the next day of payment of my whole bill.

Though I RECEIVED BILL FOR THE MONTH AND MY NO IS STILL NOT ACTIVATED IN PREPAID, and I have received the sim card for prepaid.

On asking the customer care they replied that I will have to pay my bill..

My question is why I should pay, when I have already told you to disconnect the no in postpaid..

Though I paid cause the company can make late fee charge but now I will never suggest anyone to take AIRTEL and I will think that I donate my hard earn money to the company..

My experience is bad cause no one are listening to my complaint in AIRTEL..

Dear Sir,

This is very harassing situation for me from such an esteemed organization Airtel DTH . I n the month of April 2010, your representative Mr. Anuj ( [protected]) and Ms. Preeti ([protected]) have contacted me and assured me that they are providing me Mega section in the prices of Economy package. At the time of installation I have asked the guys that what will be my package, They told me that you have to pay prices of Mega section i.e. Rs. 275 + tax, not Rs.200+ tax per month. When I have tried to contact them they have not responded well. So I cancelled the plan to install your digital TV. Since then I am chasing to reimburse my amount Rs. 1750. This amount was collected by Mr. Y. Sharma of M/s LOYALITY M 17/A/41, Gurudwara Road, Karol Bagh, New Delhi-110005 as hard cash from my house( B-42 G/F, Southend Floors, Sector 48-49, Sohna Road, Gurgaon.

My complained nos are : 2416244 dated 15.04.2010
2422358 dated 16.04.2010.

Kindly see into it and refund my money back at the earliest.

Hi,
My Airtel sim has not been functioning for 4 days and when I ended up going to a customer care service in Koramangala 7th block (Bangalore), I am told that numbers starting with 9686 series have been affected due to some change/error and that there was nothing that could be done from their end to help me and I would have to wait. On asking how Airtel could be so relaxed and negligent about customers as there could be a whole lot users affected by this issue the staff prodded me to go ahead and speak to the manager as he had no answer for my question. On telling him that he was my only SPOC to touch base to my problem he asks me to contact customer care ( Toll free number) . When I brought light to the fact that I did not have a SIM to make a call from to the customer care as I would be needing a Airtel connection he asks me the most bizzare question - "Dont you have more Airtel Sim's " ? What is that even supposed to mean ?
Where am I supposed to even go to get my problem resolved???
Regards
Poornima
