[Resolved]  HDFC Bank — Stop Payment Instruction

I have preclosed my personal loan with ICICI Bank and IngVysya Bank. I was told by the two banks that i need to contact my banker to give a stop payment as the current month's ECS would hit the SB Account. They mentioned that the closure letter would be mailed to me within 15 days. As per their suggestion I visited HDFC Bank, where i hold an SB Account and the ECS was getting cleared every month with a request letter to stop payment on 24th July 2008. The personal banker did not even know that they can accept stop payment to ECS until he confirmed with his own customer care dept by calling them. He mentioned that without the foreclosure letter, the request cannot be accepted... Unfortunately the Personal banker was just not ready to accept the letter and made me wait for his substitute manager to come as the branch manager was on leave on the said day. and i was made to wait for about 3 hours (approx). finally the substitute manager diverted me to a person who did not have to courtesy to talk to me for a minute, but had all the possible rude/absurd words and a no. He had the most arrogant behavior that i would have ever seen in any face. My question was, why is it that you dont accept a request letter? Your steps to stop the payment or not can be taken care off in the next step with proper communication to me? however, my ecs hit the SB account from ingVysya on 25th July 2008 and HDFC Bank has charged me INR 200.00 + service tax of 12.36%. I received the closure letter from ICICI Bank and i sent my brother to hand over the request letter for ECS stop payment to RT Nagar branch. They have denied taking the stop payment this time too... and i think, the ECS will hit this time too on 5th and another 200Rs to be charged to me? The same thing with my wife who cleared her CITI financial Vehicle Loan... is there somebody to help me out of this... Thanks for an immediate Response from the appropriate authority...

I completely agree that the banks especially private banks like Citibank, ABN Ambro, HSBC and others are taking customers for a ride. They violate all norms. I have numerous written proof.

Examples

They will create all possible obstacles to prevent providing any email address
They will not accept documents at their offices unless you agree to what they are saying even though they are wrong. For eg if you want to close the loan their staff will refuse to accept the amount outstanding and indirectly force you to pay extra interest.

They will not give you a copy of the stamped documents

They will not give you a complete checklist of what isa required until the last moment

They will collect interest, stamp papers, processing fees etc. My question is that if they want processing fee then why do they collect extra amount. Interest includes cost of funds and charging processing fee should be refunded if the loan is sanctioned.

They will not give you any receipt while accepting your application forms. All of them have agents and most of the time they will tell you to give undated cheques, promissory notes, etc
