I have i10 2010 model and similar problem came in my car 2 days back. I am driving this since last 3 years but never had any issue. This is really very serious issue and could call for accident. Service Center in Pune is charging huge amount to replace and saying that it would take 1 week to get the part. I don't know where can I log complaint. Can someone suggest where can I file complain?
Hyundai directed to refund consumer for faulty steering wheel and Poor mileage by South Goa District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum

Car manufacturer Hyundai has been directed by a local consumer forum to refund a sum of Rs 5, 03, 062 as compensation to a customer for selling a car with a defective steering wheel. In a complaint filed at the South Goa District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, the complainant, CIJONI MATILDA DIAS from Margao, in February 2012, stated that at the time of purchase the car was running well. However, within 10 days, the steering wheel developed problems and was not rotating properly, to the extent that when the wheel turned either to the right of left while driving it remained in the said position and did not freely return back to its normal position, that is, straight position. Rotating the wheel was difficult even though it had power steering.

Also, she proved by way of a mileage test conducted by Hyundai that the car only gave a mileage of 12 kms per litre which was far less than the company's claims of 21 kms per litre

According to her, despite repeated complaints by the complainant to the car dealer, the steering wheel was not replaced nor was the mileage problem rectified. In order to secure her safety, the complainant took the car to an independent service station to allay her fears and also took the opinion of mechanical engineers, both of whom opined that the steering wheel had a manufacturing defect and that it was dangerous which could lead to an accident. The respondents (both the car company and the dealer) in their replies disputed the complaint and contended that there was no defect in the car after it was inspected during the first free service. They also denied any deficiency in service on their part. The forum, relying upon the documents and other material placed before it, observed that the company failed to deliver a vehicle free from any defects which is their bounden duty, and directed Hyundai to refund a sum of Rs 5, 03, 062 along with interest at 9 per cent per annum from the date the car was purchased. It directed the complainant to hand over the vehicle upon refund. The forum also directed that company to pay an additional sum of Rs 25, 000 to the complainant towards mental pain and suffering.

I am facing a similar issue with my 2009 Hyundai i10 Era. The EPS light comes on during driving and the steering column goes hard. I need to stop and restart, after which the light goes off and I can drive again.

I showed this to Modi Hyundai, Thane and Ujjwal Hyundai, Nasik. I have received estimates ranging from 22K to 30K for replacing this (rep-lacing torque sensor.

I feel that erratic functioning of critical car assemblies that are not subject to normal wear & tear, as in the case of moving parts, are essentially to be deemed as manufacturing defects and ought to be replaced by Hyundai Motors Free of Cost, irrespective of whether the car is within warranty period or not.

Please let me know if anyone has had any success in persuading Hyundai to replace this FOC if out of warranty.

Incidentally this problem seems to be quite rampant. And has been cited on many international forums.
I also got the same experience with Hyundai i10 Magna 1.2 Kappa where one day the power steering got jammed and the EPS sign off with a bad smell inside the vehicle while on driving.
I went to the dealer (Popular Hyundai, Kazhakkuttam Kerala, in this case) and they replaced the motor with out any charges. Now after five months I have facing the same problem. The steering was left without "power" and became a normal steering thereafter. I fail to understand that is it my fault that I have selected one HYUNDAI product. I expect an unwanted expense to correct the problem. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh...my fate.

I also faced this problem. When I approached to service centre it was 10 days warranty lapse. they just be fooled me, that this is minor problem and can be solved while my next service, which was due.. when I went to service after 7-10 days, they told me its out of warranty and it would be charged 26K .. no one at Hyundai is interested to reply or their sevvice centre ..
I think this is major issue and Hyndai should take it back to rectify the issue . Any one who got support from company or any other solution ( local solution), please advice ..

I also faced the same issue. This part is not subjected to normal wear and tear and should be replaced by the company free of cost. I am being quoted Rs 25K as the repair cost by safdurjung hyundai gurgaon. This is really pathetic. Rs 25K is a lot of money for an ordinary person who owns the car like i10. Never recommend anybody to buy hyundai. Also since 4 days this company is not able to resolve the issue.

I have driven i10 for about 14K kms. EPS module is failed in my car. it costed my 10, 000 rupees for replacement. is it common behaviour of i10 Car ? My car is 3.5 years old.

I too had the same EPS problem.I took it to the Hyundai service center and they said the scan device is showing defect in torque sensor and the whole coloumn has be replaced which would cost 21000.I was shocked and after no choice i was ok to replace the part.

After that i googled the same for Hyundai EPS problem and i found many of them are facing the same issues. In one of the review they posted that the problem was solved by changing EPS module. So i called my service technician and asked him to first change the EPS module and if it not working then you can change the torque sensor column.

He didmt agree to me and said the scan device is showing fault in torque sensor and not it EPS module.

So after waiting for 10 days they received the torque sensor column and replaced it and after that still the EPS light was on and the technician said sir we need to replace EPS module also which would cost 9000 extra.

Since they have already placed the order they are fooling us saying both the parts has to be replaced.

i was really fedup and asked him to refit the old torque column and change only the EPS module.they changed it and said it is still not working.

I think they are fooling us and i finally got fed up and i changed the whole part torque sensor coloumn and EPS module
Same model of 2013, i10 Era, Same problem facing, some times the speedometer shows 100 or 120 km/hr on sudden still when i am at slow speed of 40, and the steering got jammed . I complaint about that in service station, but the said that every thing is ok.
What i have to do, I am fed up to Paid EMI every month for this faulty Car :(
I stay in Mumbai central area i bought my car i20 in 2008, Now suddenly something happened to its steering whenever i try to take a turn. it is completely jammed and makes some sounds. EPS light blinks on the display screen. Really worried about steering as it gets jammed in rush hours on Mumbai roads.
Me also faced problem with i10 EPS module. When checked with a reputed workshop in Delhi, they said that they keep getting similar complaints on regular basis in i10 cars bought during[protected]. My car 2010 model i10 1.2 magna.

It only suggest that the said part is defective and makes a perfect case for Hyundai to consider recalling vehicles fitted with such defective part as it is a very critical part (leads to power steering becoming hard - might cause accidents).
please solve the problem either I advertise in front of HYUNDAI SHOWROOM. AND TELL OTHER CUSTOMER THAT HYUNDAI IS NOT RELIABLE COMPANY. IF YOU BUY ITS PRODUCT IT MEANS YOU THROWING YOUR MONEY IN GUTTER.

I own i10 magna 1.2 kappa model 2009. Yesterday I saw EPS warning and power steering got jammed. Before I consult any workshop, I opted Google search to find a solution but now I am surprised to know that it is very common problem with i10 and replacement is very costly. I request to the company to find a solution for the same and provide free replacement or it will loss its reputation in the market.
I also request to the car owners who experianced similar problem to share how they solved it and at what cost. If everybody unite at this foram, we can force company for free replacement. UNION IS STRENGTH.

We purchased i10 Sports 1.2 kappa model 2009. Last week I saw EPS warning and power steering got jammed. I also opted Google search to find a solution but now I am surprised to know that it is very common problem with i10 and replacement is very costly. Hope Hyundai company to find a solution to their customers for the same and provide free replacement or it will loss its reputation in the market. I was suppose to recommend my freind to buy i10 but now i have to rethink. It seems it is common problem and something is related to manufacturing defect in EPS. From: Bhagwan Avhad. I also face the same issues with my Eon Magna 2012 model done only 14000 km. Service center guy is saying that EPS needs to be changed because of faulty motor which effected the Module of power Steering. I think this is a Manufacturing defect and company needs to replace it for free, but don't know where to approach.
