[Resolved] Reliance General Insurance — Car Theft Claim Rejection - Reason > No Watchman Present
Here is a brief on my Reliance General Insurance Claim No[protected] My Scorpio vehicle was stolen on 5th November 2009 from the workshop where it was being repaired at , I immediately filed a report and finished all the formalities required then and notified Reliance immediately. Subsequently their assessors VBA associates had send us a exhaustive list of all documents required by them, which after running between police stations , regional transport offices & court I could finally give them on Aug 2, 2010.(List of documents with 2 sets of original keys handed over Reliance Claim – VBA covering) After which I tried innumerable times to contact the claim officer of Reliance Mr Anil Solkar Anil.[protected]@relianceada.com who was never available on telephone (either with customers or not on his seat or not in office ) nor would I get a single call back or reply to my mail from him, finally I got through around Sept 8th th , 2010 and Mr Anil Solkar advised me that the head office has sanctioned my claim for Rs 6,10,000/- (5% reduction towards Depreciation) v/s the insured value of Rs 6,42,600/- and I should furnish a notarized “Consent Letter” for the same , which I prepared and sent a Email Scan on Sept 13th , after which I didn’t hear from him for awhile nor could I get him on the telephone, finally I decided to just land up at their Ghatkopar office with a Hard Copy of the letter and asked to see them (they sent a peon out to collect the consent letter who acknowledged the letter and gave the copy to me – attached Reliance Consent Acknowledged.), I mean I have taken the trouble to drive from Santacruz (w) to the Ghatkpar (E) office and was at my wits end. Finally at my insistence Mr Tushar Bhandarkar Tushar.[protected]@relianceada.com finally came out to meet me, and assured me that I had finished all the work from my side and the claim would be settled within 12 working days. Finally here is what I get a flat rejection saying that the garage guy didn’t provide a watchman for my car and hence they are rejecting my claim (attached Reliance Claim Rejection Letter), in Bombay everyone parks their cars on the roads (locked ofcourse – I have given both sets of original keys to them ) – does this imply that the Insurance doesn’t work if we don’t employ watchmen for locked vehicle’s !! Didn’t they know this 10 months ago before they sent me on a wild goose chase for all kinds of documents. Why would they ask me for a consent letter for a claim which was approved by them and then reject it is something which doesn’t cease to amaze me.. The only options left to me seem legal i.e Insurance Ombudsam , Consumer Court , Media , Public Greviance Committee (PGC) all of which I understand are processes which would take my time, effort , money & energy which I rather conserve for Positive Actions if I have a choice, else its too much of money for me as a person in adventure sports to loose ! Any advise suggestions appreciated Peace, Bliss & Happy Landings Sanjay Rao Web > www.flynirvana.com Tel > [protected] / 26053724 Mail > [protected]@gmail.com Was this information helpful?
