[Resolved]  Western Railway — Rules for Pregnant Women to board handicap compartment in local train

Address:Mumbai Suburban, Maharashtra

i myself varuna chaturvedi, i travel everyday to my office at dahisar by local train. As

I am 8 months pregnant and i board handicap compartment of local train as per the rules.

Me & other female face an issue of harrassment by other commuters stating that we are not allowed to board as we do not have any certificate for the same and if boarding is allowed we are not allowed to sit.

i have enquired railway office they do not issue any such certificate to protect our right.

We get humiliated at such a sensitive stage of our pregnancy which at times lead to unease & stress and can lead to physical issue with us.

i would like Railways to state clear rules reagrding the same.

Railway state "Advance stage" which is speculative statement in itself and allow commuters to point us.

we need support mentally as well as physically such ahrassment could lead to severe consequences.

earliest action is highly appreciated.

Regards,
Varuna Chaturvedi

Very well said Varuna, I myself facing the same issue recently where other handicap commuters ask you to vacant the seat for physically challenged and this becomes very annoying and hurting for a pregnant women.

Suvidha
yes, you both are right I too face the same problem some of commuters straight way insult and humiliate. Its like in are situation we cant travel in normal ladies compartment due to rushed and on top of that those ladies say we have to travel in handicap and handicap they think we are not allowed where the pregnant women will travel. At one day one handicap lady cursing the pregnant women for her baby that he will also born and handicap that was really inhuman behavior .. How one can listen this kind of words to a baby who has not born yet

its a kind request to the Government to make strict rule against the harassment of pregnant woman's in handicap compartment.

Pregnant women are allowed to enter the handicap compartment only in their advanced stage of pregnancy. But, actually the early 3 months of pregnancy are also very crucial and it is very important for pregnant women to be stress-free and safe in the 1st trimester. In the peak hours, the ladies compartment is very crowded and it becomes very difficult for a pregnant woman to take care of her child. People are not concerned about anybody's well-being. All they want is to get on the train by hook or by crook. So, in such case, how can a pregnant woman and her child be safe?
I am sincerely requesting that pregnant women should be allowed to enter the handicap compartment from the 1st day of their pregnancy. As a proof, they should always carry their medical examination papers or a certificate from their gynecologist that they are expecting a child.
I agree with Mrs. Varuna's concerns, the handicapped co passengers feel ask if you are in your 9th month, how will i carry my child till the 9th month if my child will not be safe in the prior 8 months and where is it stated in which month a pregnant woman can enter into a handicapped compartment?
How can a pregnant woman enter the ladies compartment, be it 1st class or 2nd class in peak hours.
There are times when we are humiliated. The handicapped co passengers feel like they own the compartment just because they have an ID card. Can't the dumb/ deaf passengers stand for a while and share their seats with passengers who have disability in their limbs?
We all have to understand that we must have empathy towards one another. We must share and care.
I request the railways to kindly address our concerns and look after the safety of our lives.
This is true.. even in an advance stage the handicap people expect us to stand.. for them being pregnant is not a big deal.. infact women's only do this kind of harassment... Government should give proper clear instructions... Even after getting permission to travel in handicap compartment.. we pregnant women are treated like crap...
