[Resolved]  Godrej/ Washing Machine — Unethical behaviour - Chennai service technicians want to unecessarily replace parts to get fat commissions

The water flowing in was flowing out immediately, clothes not getting washed. I made a complaint at 7.45pm, and technician arrived by 8.30pm!!! He turned the machine on its side and fiddled with a springy part that was stuck, and hey presto, problem solved, machine starts to work! BUT not end of story Diagnosis is that a looootttt of scale formation has caked up between the 2 drums, for which 1) he will have to bring and put 5 pkts of some acid salt tomorrow, which will cost Rs.750, + service charge of Rs.350. 2) I must buy and put 1 pkt of same @ 150 per pkt every month as prevention 3) I shd put a filter priced at Rs.1800/- to prevent any iron particles dissolved in the water from entering 4) I shd go for an AMC worth Rs.3600 to cover next 2 years 5) I must get a stand priced at Rs.1100 to prevent body rusting - even though no such rust has developed over past 2 yrs Total: Rs.7600 for a 4-yr old WM that cost Rs.9900/- When I said I will consider the AMC after 2 months, he warned me that the machine may fail before that. As you may imagine, I got really annoyed by his pressure tactics. He also compelled me to part with the 'secret' code number to be given if 100% satisfied. Wondering whether to cancel the 5 pkt de-scaling, as these guys are up to their nasty tricks as it had happened in the last incident about 18 months ago - too long to repeat here, but gist is that that technician had said that the motor had to be replaced (@ Rs.2400) which I refused, but Viveks did the repair w/out such replacement at a nominal rate. Chennai Godrej technicians seem to be a bunch of extortionists
