[Resolved]  HDFC Bank — Negative balance in my account

To provide some context, I initially opened this account before commencing my college studies. However, once I started my college education, my family began sending me funds to my SBI account, which became my primary account. Consequently, I was not actively monitoring my HDFC account.

To my dismay, I recently discovered that my HDFC account, which I assumed to be inactive, now reflects a negative balance of -₹554. This discovery was both unexpected and distressing, as I had not initiated any transactions or incurred any charges on this account since I started using my SBI account.

As per the recent Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks are no longer authorized to impose penalties on dormant accounts. It is my understanding that these guidelines aim to protect consumers from unwarranted charges on accounts that are not actively used.

In light of this, I attempted to resolve the issue by contacting HDFC customer care. However, to my disappointment, I was informed that the account cannot be closed without settling the negative balance through a fine.

I kindly request your immediate attention and intervention in this matter. I believe that my account should not be subject to any charges, as it qualifies as a dormant account according to the RBI's guidelines.

Therefore, I respectfully request the following actions:

To waive the negative balance of -₹554 on my HDFC account in line with the RBI's regulations on dormant accounts.
To officially close the account, as it is no longer required and has remained dormant.
I trust that HDFC Bank will take prompt action to resolve this issue and align with the RBI's guidelines regarding dormant accounts. I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and your assistance in ensuring a swift resolution.
