MTNL Mumbai — Intermittent broadband service
For the past few months, the service provided by MTNL has been nothing short of abysmal. The connection is slow and intermittent, and keeps on dropping out regularly. The customer service is a joke. Filing a complaint amounts to nothing. You have a person calling up, refusing to identify himself, asking if the landline is working. A blot on all ISPs. Was this information helpful?

especially the ones sitting at the local offices, is worse than a joke.
They lack everything from service and procedure knowledge to work
ethics and even basic respect for customers - a result of the sure
salary in an irresponsible 'government office'. They harassed me for 5
weeks, including 2 times they made me visit their local office (in Andheri-W) just for cancellation that finally seems to have happened today. I heard that MTNL (and BSNL) make their buck on leased lines and towers by private vendors and do not see a necessity to care much about individual customers. One solution for speed and service reliability is, like you've probably considered, other providers (I had a great experience with the Airtel broadband service for years before I moved, , though their admin system could use some improvements). Another one in the city is to look for a smaller local provider - they offer great deals. Leave MTNL unless you have a constraint imposed by your job (some government jobs do impose such restrictions as to use only government provided services - talk about competition!). Till then good luck with one of the most irresponsible, inefficient and totally lacking in ethics and conscience organizarions in the country.
