[Resolved]  Urban Company — Fraud

My name is Anita Kanungo. I have been a loyal customer o[censored]rban company for a long time, but I will no longer use Urban Company’s services, because of the FRAUD that was recently committed against me by an Urban Company technician RAMESH KOLI, on 3rd August.

I had booked a technician through Urban Company named RAMESH KOLI for fridge repair because my LG fridge had completely stopped working, and all my food was getting spoiled. On the phone, Ramesh told me that it was necessary for me to cancel the booking on the app in order for him to fix the fridge on an ‘urgent’ basis. He said this was the only way he could attend to me immediately. Fearing total food spoilage, I cancelled the booking as per his instructions. He changed the capacitor, charged me Rs. 2500/- and then he left. But the fridge still did not work properly, and after a few days stopped cooling completely. I called him again and he said gas needed to be refilled and the sensor needed to be changed — for both these things he charged me Rs. 5300/-. But the fridge stopped working again, and this time, when he came back, he said the compressor needed to be changed. By now I had become suspicious of him — I realised he was scamming me. So I called the LG service person, who checked the fridge and told me that the sensor hadn’t been changed (as Ramesh claimed) and that the capacitor that had been installed by Ramesh was an old fake one. I called Ramesh and told him this — at first he denied that he had defrauded me, but then he said that he would come and check the fridge again. He then agreed to refund the money, but he never came, and when I called, he stopped answering.

It is clear that the Urban Company technician Ramesh Koli has committed fraud against me — he has fooled me into cancelling the booking by using an excuse (he said that it was normal procedure to cancel the booking for urgent service; he knew that I needed urgent service in order to prevent total food spoilage). He has put old and dysfunctional spare parts into my fridge, scamming me of 7800/-rupees, and then, after taking my money, he has stopped answering my calls, leaving me with only dysfunctional, fake spare parts. I am deeply aggrieved. I am contemplating police action. I will no longer use Urban Company, and I will tell all my friends and family also to not use Urban Company.
