Vodafone India — Major goof-up by store in changing my plan

I recently got transferred from India to UK by my company. A few days before leaving India I went to the Vodafone Store at Nerul (Seawoods) to change my plan. I asked them to put me on a pre-paid plan as I was not intending to use my phone abroad, but wanted to keep it live so people can still reach me and also to have a permanent number on my trips to India. The executive convinced me to keep my phone on a low rental plan instead with international roaming facility. Total rental Rs 99 base rental plus Rs 149 international roaming rental. I told the executive I did not want any other services and hence to switch them all off. The executive told me that the plan would start on 4th July the day I was going to UK and then went on to take down the request. She advised me that soon as I reach UK when I switch on my phone, my plan would be on. I had before this had a Rs. 650 3G data plan also on my phone which also I had asked them to deactivate. A couple of days after I reached UK, I got a message that my phone had very high usage. Hence all outgoing got barred. I waited for the bill to come and a month later when it came, I realized that the executive at the store had only added the low rental plan and international roaming plan. She had left all other services on. Joke international roaming also on and india data pack also on. Because she had left International data roaming on (which I had asked to shut off) my phone downloaded some emails etc and some 40MB got utilized. For this I was charged Rs 23000+. I complained to customer service immediately, and they asked me to write to corporate assist. I wrote, and apart from an automated response promising a revert in 48, hrs I never got a response back. I kept following up with multiple people in Vodafone including a guy called Suraj Lakkam who told me he will make my problem vanish. But all talk and no work. I am still stuck with no resolution. Meanwhile Vodafone racked up interests and late payments and further monthly charges (though my phone was off) and the bill now became Rs 34000+. Finally some collection guy from Vodafone got through to me and offered to settle the amount. He is now asking me to 'settle' the bill paying Rs 8600. Why should I pay for the fault of the vodafone executive who didbnot do her Job correctly. My actual usage bill including service tax should be only Rs 4000. I need a quick resolution to this problem.
