Vodafone India — Unfair Data Roaming charges

I visited my home town in MP last month and I was charged Rs 3000 for data roaming even though I was always informed "free data roaming" by Vodafone. They say that since Vodafone doesn't work in MP my phone itself latched onto another network idea but I was not sent any message or was given no information about the same. This is like buying something which does not have a price tag and since u got a hand on it you have to pay the charges. This is unfair and unacceptable. I have sent multiple emails to their customer care but same response is sent by them all the time telling that charges are genuine.
