[Resolved] Bikanervala — Dead Cockroach embedded in sweets
Date: September 02, 2010
Please accept this as a formal complaint against BIKANER WALA SWEETS, located on Faizabad Road, Indra Nagar, in Lucknow. The incident in question occurred on August 19, 2010.
I, upon the recommendation of a local Lucknow resident friend purchased a kilogram of ‘Moong Dal Barfi ‘ , along with several additional items from the above described store on my way to the Lucknow Airport, to catch a flight to PUNE. After arriving in PUNE on the same evening, I opened the box of sweets to share with members of my family.
After consumption of a few pieces, when we split the next piece in half, we found to our shock and utter disgust that there was a small dead cockroach embedded within the center of the piece. After getting over the shock, and thanking our stars for having found it before putting that piece in our mouth, we immediately sealed the culprit piece within aluminium foil and placed it back in the box in which it came. I called up my friend in Lucknow to inform him of the disgusting finding. My friend in turn got hold of one of the company managers from their Delhi office who profoundly apologized.
I have since brought the culprit piece of sweet along with the remaining quantity in the original box to Lucknow and given it to my friend in Lucknow for safekeeping as evidence. They will hold it in refrigerator until your office and any other regulatory agency is ready to examine the evidence.
I am a subspecialized physician and my family and I are extremely upset at this incident. It requires thorough investigation by the Government agencies that are responsible for issuing business permits to such entities, and CITY and STATE Health Departments that have the duty and obligation to safeguard the safety and welfare of its citizens’ health.
This incident shows the callousness and complete disregard of rules and regulations by BIKANERWALA SWEETS who deserve nothing less than the most severe action prescribed under the applicable laws. They and others like them must be made to realize that such gross and neglectful conduct will not go unpunished and may directly affect their pocketbooks. They also need to be placed under magnifying lens of close monitoring in order to ensure that compliance is achieved on an ongoing basis.
To further illustrate the problem, I have attached several digital photographs of the item in question which as I said previously will be preserved as long as necessary for required action to take place.
I am also contemplating separate legal action against the involved business but plan to keep that in abeyance until after the responsible Government agencies have completed their investigation of the matter.
I appreciate your prompt attention in this matter and will be keenly looking forward to hearing from you soon. Should you have any questions, please feel free to call the Mobile numbers listed below or contact me via email.
