[Resolved]  Irctc — Waiting List E-Ticket automatic cancellation

Dear Sir/Madam,

This compliant is with reference to one of the rules that is being followed in IRCTC for the Waiting List category of E-tickets.

When a consumer's E-Ticket booked in IRCTC for a travel in a sceduled train is happened to be on waiting list category at the time of booking and if it status is 'Waiting List' at the time of chart preparation, the E-ticket will get cancelled automatically. If that person travels with that ticket, he is just regarded as ticketless passenger.

I would like to strongly advocate against this rule. Because, while booking the E-ticket, the passanger is paying an extra reservation charge. Why not the E-Ticket is given the same options as that with the tickets reserved at the counter. Why not the E-ticket waiting list is also allowed to be in the queue and to get cleared even after the chart preparation?

I absolutely agree to it and strongly advocate to not to auto cancel the waitlisted e ticket. as it is injustice to the passenger taht he pays exta as service charge and suffers hardship, as he is buying the hardship at the cost of service charge by IRCTC and bank.
The reason given for the automatic cancellation of wait-listed e-tickets at the time of chart preparation, is that there is no other way to prevent an unscrupulous passenger from cancelling the e-ticket and still attempting to be a legitimate passenger. To prevent this misuse, the railways could consider limiting the cancellation of wait listed e-tickets at least 24 hours before the departure of the train. This would greatly help genuine e-ticket passengers who are wait listed.

My wife and two kids (8yrs and 5yrs) had to travel by 12677 (intercity exp from BLR to Sankari) on 27th Apr 2013, The ticket was waitlisted even after chart prep. Unfortunately we did not know the rules that it is considered as invalid ticket. Later she landed up paying rs1000 to TT for managing seat, but she was not issued ticket. Now how to avoid such miscreant who collect money for their benefits?

What is this bludy rule.I have waiting for our ticket for bording but its automaticaly canceled.

My suggestions to IRCTC : 1) the system should send SMS at the time of auto cancellation at the time of chart preparation, in cases of fully wait listed e-tickets, rather than the system and 139 giving the wait list number again and again. 2) when fully wait listed PNRs are auto cancelled, such change in waiting position should be automatically updated in respect of I tickets or physical tickets from counter. E.g. A passenger with ticket booked from counter, with waiting list 20 may not hope to get confirmation, whereas, actually all 19 waitlist above him may be pertaining to e tickets and may get auto cancelled. Due to lack of this knowledge, he may not take a chance, whereas person below him in waiting list may take chance, and get confirmed ticket. Intimating the revised position in waiting list due to dropping or auto cancelation of waitlisted e tickets will go in the spirit of Right to Information. 3) Last, but not the least, e ticketing should give the person an option as to whether he will prefer such auto cancellation and direct credit of amount in case of full waiting list.
I had booked a E ticket in Rajdhani from Ahmedabad to Jaipur in AC 3 Teir for 18th May 2014. There were 3 passengers but only one passenger ticket was confirmed and other two were in WL 1 and 2. Please let me know if the ticket of the wait listed passengers will be cancelled automatically or the passengers can travel with the confirmed passenger. This should be clarified as earlier if one passengers position is confirmed then other wait listed candidates ticket is not cancelled automatically.Santosh Bhargava

I booked an e-ticket with transaction ID [protected] from : HOWRAH JN (HWH) to KHARAGPUR JN (KGP) (Date of Journey 10-Mar-2015) on 08/03/2015 but my e-ticket has not booked because due to internet connection fail then my bank statement shown is ticket amount has been debit Rs.533/- but my irctc user ID shown is bank payment is not received . So, Plz needfull and necessary action.
