abt the auto drivers treating ppl bad... me being a localite also hav gone through this... its the same case everywhr... and dont u bargain 4 more when u change a job?? y hav u come here 2 get a better pay and a better job rite?? its the same wit them... but i do agree its a wrong way... now u hav helplines 2 complain against the auto driver who hav asked u 2 get down at the wrong place or ask u 2 pay more... try 2 read newz papers daily.. We have to respect our country first. For that one should give respect to the people in this country. Consider Tamilians, kanadigas, Marathi, North Indians etc etc as our brothers and sisters. Love them, respect them.

First of all, I would like to address the people like Girish etc. You know for the first time in 7 years in bangalore, I am hearing such language from a kannadiga. Are you sure you are a kannadiga? I refuse to believe so. As in real life I am yet to come across so uncultured kannadiga. Sorry brother, you are not a kannadiga.
I have travelled all over the country and have been born in one state of north and brought up in another of east and for work have stayed in nearly all the states. The problems which you people are talking about exist everywhere. And people like you are also everywhere, and I assure you whereever you go, you will face it because you are of that nature. Do you understand what I am talking about? Let me guess where you all stay/stayed in Bangalore. My guess, first you hunted a place where non-kannadigas are in majority. I am right isn't it?

If I am staying in a place for 7 years, then I should learn it. I am unable to because of my aptitude and circumstances. And if I start blaming kannadigas for that, then it is me who is , not them.
Secondly, I have always stayed in places where maximum number of times, I am the only north indian or east Indian, as you might say it, but I never faced any issues. Bloody hell, now I have fallen in a habit and do not feel safe in any part of bangalore which does not have kannadigas in majority. I won't trust any area for staying with my family, if kannadigas are not in majority.
The problem lies with individuals with the attitude of emperors, who think that wherever they go, the locals are their father's servant and should serve them.

It is not that Chennai people don't like speaking in Hindi, they have not learnt Hindi and they are not able to speak Hindi. It is not their mistake. i am forced to live in chennai by my company for more than one year. but some of my colleagues told me that chennai people wont allow me to talk in hindi and they hate north indians. but when i lived in chennai, i found that tamil people are good in nature but they have not learned hindi like other states. they really helped me to live peacefully. i learned tamil to some extend and managed.

If kannadigas start throwing unnecessarily cheap comments on others, it will only help to develop hatred in the minds of people from other states. today i have seen a news that auto driver beaten up two women students in HSR layout and police is not ready to take a complaint. this news came in bangalore mirror news paper today 21 dec 2010. And i am damm sure this will never happen in any cities. it is really disturbing how this people behaving.

Most of the comments from both sides makes an interesting read, and one with pertinent acumen can make out that these are necessarily encounters between two different social strata. An educated, gainfully employed person weather a kannadiga in karnataka or a bihari in bihar or a tamil in tn or any other local would not be aversive to other state people, but unfortunately most of the menial laborers with whom a typical 'ousider, interacts do not belong to this social class of 'haves' they tend to be more the 'have nots' and there lies the real problem, socioeconomic difference.
All immigrants in Karnatak should try to naturalize, i am half tamil and half kanadiga not by birth but by choice, i love both the states but have been lucky to have extensive families in both, this situation has helped me in understanding the amazing similarities between supposedly combative neighbors. The key is to naturalize, learn local language not the whole thing, i just managed to know enough to speak with auto walas after 10 years in the state. All the jingoism in the form of karnataka flag and kannada only in bus name plates etc will be more tolerable after that, and you would also begin to appreciate the distinctively pious Hindu culture that k'natak has..even if you are a muslim :)
