Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing to register a formal complaint regarding unacceptable and unfair practices at your PVR theatre in Kanpur. On my recent visit, I was compelled to purchase a food voucher of ₹150 along with the movie ticket — I was told no ticket would be issued without the voucher. I paid for that voucher believing it to be valid and redeemable.
When I attempted to redeem the voucher at the food counter, I found that there was nothing available worth ₹150 — effectively forcing me to pay extra or forego the value. This behavior feels misleading and gives no real “voucher-value” benefit to the consumer.
Additionally:
I noticed that the same movie ticket was being sold at a lower effective price on the booking platform BookMyShow @ 275/- Rs. Only it indicating a possible overcharge or unfair tying of voucher + ticket.
I was not provided a transparent list of items available at ₹150, nor any guarantee that the voucher value would actually be redeemable.
I believe this amounts to an unfair or restrictive trade practice, and contravenes consumer rights regarding freedom to choose — forcing a purchase mandatory for entry.
In view of the above, I kindly request the following actions:
A full refund of ₹150 for the voucher which I was forced to buy but could not redeem.
A review and clarification of your policy at your Kanpur theatre regarding mandatory voucher purchase — especially ensuring that tickets can be sold without imposing food-voucher purchase.
Disclosure of how many such vouchers have been sold versus redeemed in the current financial year at your theatre (or overall), to assess the scale of this practice.
Assurance that in future you will offer clear, transparent pricing — distinguishing ticket cost and optional food vouchers, and not force customers to purchase unwanted vouchers.
If this matter is not resolved within a reasonable time, I will consider escalating this complaint to the appropriate consumer-forum / legal notice.
Please treat this complaint as being of public interest, since many patrons may face the same issue unwittingly.
I look forward to your prompt response and a resolution at the earliest.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Onkar Nath Tiwary
