Question no. 7 of section A was not proper
as it has been asked that name the salt used in pakoras to make it crispy and has ph 14. But ph14 is highly basic in nature which can harm our body, so it can't be used in pakoras. So the question should be like this, name the salt used in pakoras to make it crispy and have ph 8.0 or 8.5 and its answer is baking powder. And baking powder or baking soda have ph 8.0 or 8.5.

This is regarding a mistake in the recently held cbse class 10 science board (Held on 16/3/18). Here are the details as per the question paper :
    Series tym
    Set 2
    Code 31/2
In the question paper, qn 10 in which a choice was provided is as follows :

The ph of a salt to make tasty and crispy pakoras is 14. Identify the salt and write a chemical eqn. For its formation. List it's two uses.

Now this question is wrong as the ph of a edible salt which is used in cooking can never be 14 as ph 14 indicates a highly basic compound which can be harmful to humans as it is highly dangerous and not at all usable for cooking as it is highly basic.
Also the compound which has ph level 14 is sodium hydroxide (Naoh), which is not the answer in this case and the question is therefore highly misleading and incorrect to a great extent as it provides incorrect facts to a student.

The correct answer should be baking soda (Nahco3) which has a ph value of around 8.6 and is used to make baking powder which is used in making pakoras tasty not crispy instead it makes it fluffy. This is clearly another piece of misleading information for the students.

So with 2 major mistakes, the question is absolutely incorrect and misleads the students to a wrong answer as incorrect factual information has been provided from the cbse's side.

As a student who attempted the paper i was mislead due the incorrect information given regarding the question and demand with all my right that those who have attempted this part of the particular question be awarded with marks for just the attempt as this is a blunder from cbse's side as it is a clear cut mistake in the factual information provided to a student via the question paper for which cbse should take appropriate action and do justice to the students.

I hope that just like the decision for the english communicative paper in which there was a mistake, here too the decision is in the favour of the students.

Hoping that cbse will do justice to the students and award marks for attempting this particular part of this question.

Keeping faith is the prestigious and honourable institution that cbse is i hope the decision favours the students as i am one and understand the severe importance of the board exams and each mark.

Lastly i would like to remind once again

*all students that have attempted the particular part of this particular question be awarded full marks for attempting it as the question is wrong *

    Regards
    Class 10 student

I am student of class 10. There's a mistake in question paper of class 10 cbse board science exam dates on 16 march 2018. The question was that it was asking about the name of the salt which has ph level of 14 which is used to make pakoras. But there is no salt of ph level 14 only naoh is a salt which is a base and not edible. However, baking soda is used but it's ph level is 8.1. Therefore, this question was wrong and they should not suffer because of cbse mistake. So, students should be given grace marks for attempting this question.

I am a student in class 10. I want to request you to give grace marks in one subject if the passes in other four subject. If he / she gets passing marks in four subject then can you increase 5 to 6 marks. This can help many students. Or can you give 1 marks for attempting a question. No matter it is wrong or right be cause we are the first batch to write board after many years.

Please i request you to take actions as fast as possible

The question states that the ph of the salt used to make tasty and crispy pakoras is 14. This therefore was a wrong question as a substance with ph 14 is not edible.
This was question number 10 in set 2 of the science question paper.
So, we request you to take the required action as it was not an answerable question. It would be unfair if we loose our marks for the same.

Today was are science test. My question paper set is 2 and code no. Is 31/2. There was a wrong question in section a. Question no. 10 the 'or' question in which we were asked to identify a salt added in pakoras to make it tasty and crispy. The answer to this should have been baking soda but further the question added that the ph of the salt is 14. Baking soda is a mild base with it's ph 8. Thus it's not possible that the answer to the question is baking soda. Many students have written caustic soda as answer because its ph is 14. Further the question asked about the formation and applications of the salt, making it a 3 marker question. Sir i would like to request you to please take note of this and make sure that students should not be disadvantaged because of this error. I humbly request you to urgently take suitable action. Thank you

Referring to the question no. 10 of science exam it said that you a salt of ph of 14 is used to make pakoras crispier the question is wrong as no salt can have a ph of 14 also many people are referring to the answer being nahco3 which is also wrong as neither it is a base nor it has a ph of 14 and also it is used to provide fluffyness all the students who have attempted this question should be given grace marks as losing 3 marks is a heavy fine without any reason

The question in sciemce paper held on 16 march, 2018 stating: the ph of a salt used to make tasty and crispy pakoras is 14. Idemtify the salt and write a chemical equation for its formation and list uses.
This question can is quite confusing because salt with ph 14 is naoh and is generally not edible where as salt which is used in making pakoras crispy is nahco3 has ph 9 and not 14. Plz check it and resolve it.

Please acknowledge that class 10 science paper had a question which stated "the ph of a salt used to make tasty and crispy pakoras is 14...". Here the salt used to make pakoras does not have a ph of 14. This created misunderstandings and two answers according to the two criteria (One for pakoras and other for ph value) are possible... Please ensure that either grace marks are given or both the answers are corrected... Hope you will acknowledge...

Mostly people are saying that answer is NaHCO3 buy it has ph 9 . And salt with ph 14 is NaOH. It might ne the answer.

The question number 10, second option, incorrectly gives the value of ph as 14. If the answer is baking soda then ph cannot be 14. If the answer is washing soda then it is not edible in pakoras. Please take action and give marks in lieu of this question. The incorrect fact in question was confusing for children writing board exams for the first time.
