Vodafone — Lottery Scam Call: +92 Code Number

Address:South West Delhi, Delhi

I received a call from [protected] on my phone number today. I was told that the call was from Kirti Nagar, Delhi Vodafone office and that I won Rs. 25 lakh in a Vodafone Lottery. He gave me the number of his "supervisor" in Worli, Mumbai office whose name was one Brijesh Balaji ([protected]). I was suspicious at the first call itself as the code was of Pakistan, but I still called back.
I am stating a detailed account of my conversation because this might be helpful for others from getting caught in such scams.
The so-called Balaji told me the lottery was nation-wide with prize money ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50 lakhs. I kept inquiring about their genuineness and he said the lottery numbers had been flashing on TV for the past three days and they finally called me as they didn't receive any response to their TV flashes. I asked the TV channel and they said it was shown on Sahara One at sharp 9:30 pm. I asked if I can get details of the lottery on the Vodafone website or through Vodafone Care and he said the results were fresh and so they won't get updated anywhere yet. I asked why is this a Pakistan code and he said this was a routed number to their server and wasn't an international call. But it was evident that the call charges were according to ISD rates when I hung up.
"Balaji" asked me my account number so that they could transfer the prize money. I said I will collect it from Vodafone office but he said this was not possible as the money would be dispatch from a separate server or something like that. He finally gave me the option of giving my address so they could drop the cheque instead. I said that goes fine since I would have given my office address. He has told me to call tomorrow morning at sharp 9:00 am.
I even asked "Balaji to give me an alternate number of Mumbai since the network was hard to get through but he denied to give any personal numbers. I told him I will call him tomorrow morning at 9.
I obviously won't. But if someone at Vodafone is listening right now then please check the numbers that I mentioned and inquire into this issue. This is a serious issue where our personal numbers have been accessed from Vodafone database and we are receiving calls from Pakistan. If anything, I might get into some serious trouble as I consistently was in conversation with some unknown Pakistan number at 9:30 in the night and even spat out Rs. 120 on those calls. Please note that both the callers were conversing in Hindi, which was very fluent and sounded local.
Hoping for assistance from Vodafone since I observed other complaints with exactly the same issue.

Paranjoy
(I will share my Vodafone number personally if requested by Vodafone)

Unknown number calls — Asking to deposit money for prize

Sir, i am contionously getting phone calls and sms from this phone no. [protected] to deposit money Rs 9800 rupees and to get prize money and also to provide account details so that money can be deposited in our account.Requesting to take approriate action againest this phone no.
Hi..This side Puneet Ahuja from Faridabad, Haryana. I got a same call from same no.s. Thanks for sharing Paranjoy...
Exactly similar thing with me today.I got cal from [protected] and other story is exaclty same.Person who picked up phone names himself as Kiran Kumar sharma.and then he gives other number and a 3 digit lottery number stating that If I cal the other number [protected] which will be picked up by Brijesh Balaji. When I ask the address form he is calling.Reply was Mumbai fort Office.address of office is New Delhi, Mumbai..
I was taken a back for a moment he told the address.
Initially I dint notice it was ISD.I thot it was sum landline. But after keeping phone when I saw the number I was really afraid since it belonged to Pakistan...Some days befor e I recieved an SMS from some Internatinal no. +[protected] and asked to call back on this number, saying"Hi honey.. I am missing your lovely voice, lets share some lovely moments. I am waiting for you"

I guess someone has hacked the numbers from some common system.
As long as issues like terrorist misusing the numbers doesnt happen..Its ok.. Unnecessarily common public is the one who will suffer..
similar case with me as paranjoy.got call [protected] at 10:51 which was a missed call..

on calling back, .a person impersonating as a vodafone rep from South ex-1, lodhi road said that you have won 10 Lacs as a vodafone lottery and you need to call his supervisor, Vijay Kumar in Bandra at [protected] at 11:03AM...

On calling this number, this guy wanted to know my bank account number details...Being suspicious about the whole talk, I asked their office location...as per him, they were from South Ex-!, Lodhi road in Surya Market..he was not able to tell me the exact address and was hellbent on me just sharing my account no...

By then I had realised the no being a pakistani no and this was a major scam happening...It seems that vodafone database is hacked and customer's info is freely available to all and sundry which is really a huge worrying sign. Once i googled it, I can see many people fleeced in various cities...Hope Vodafone realises this and keeps a check.
Hi Folks

I just had similar experience.
The caller said he was calling from New Delhi, when I told him the number flashing on my phone [protected] was not from India, he tried to spin it off as call from a computer.
I got suspicious and asked him to give me a landline number so that I could call him back to confirm. Immediately his language became rude and I hung up the phone.

Then I checked the internet and sure enough there are many others with similar complaints.

Thanks for your post Paranajoy et al

Cheers
Arun Kumar

Hi Folks,

I had a similar experience. Addition to all the story he asked us to keep the phone switched off till 10:00 AM as they are working on the SIM and configuring it for the award.

He then called back to check if phone was switched off. Obviously, I didnt recieved the phone this time.

Thanks,
Andy
Hello All,

BE SAFE

Hi All,

I also got the same call as said by mr. Paranjoy.

There is something seriously wrong with vodafone.

Jai
Today morning at around 7:30 AM, I got a miss call from[protected]. Later when I called back, the person was talking about some lottery and was saying that I have won 25 Lac(In hindi ). So I thought it's a prank or something more... so I disconnected the call at 41 sec. And Rs. 10/- was deducted from my account.. Please inform what is the location of this number as I think it's a ISD number may be Pakistan.

Vodafone should clarify how these people are getting India's Vodafone number...
Hi All,

Same thing happened with me some 10 minutes back and i googled it and thanks Pranajoy and all for making me aware.
But on the same site there is another guy who has written that these guys asked him to pay 15K for some processing fees and then again asked for 25K so i dont really think its a security threat. This is obviously a new trick to fool people.
Or by the mobile company to make u do more ISD calls.

Thanks,
Kushal
Yes Pranoy, I got a similar call, asking for my account number.I think thers guys are hired by their local cellphone companies to lure international customers into spending call time with their networks. Anup G. S.
