Mine is also a similar case. I got HSBC sending me a statement with an annual fee i called the customer care and they reverted the fee. I had told them that i do not need any credit card with annual fees when iam eligible to get life time free cards from many other banks.

The next year they had put the same annual fee again and i called the customer care and told them that iam not going to use the card anymore. They had assured me that they will make the outstanding as 0.
But it didn't happen rather they did start putting fine and other charges and they have bought it to 6k.

Now iam getting annoying calls from HSBC telling that they will take action against me and the person who calls from Delhi will not be good in English and during the conversation he will tell something in Hindi which sounds to be bad and i do not know as what to do on this.

Can anyone suggest an authority with whom i could take this matter to?

Thanks,
Sendil

I have a HSBC Credit card which was issued around four years back. At the time of issue I was told that it is annual charges free card for life time and in the previous years when they charged the annual fee it was waived instantly. In the Card statement generated during the month of April, 2009 an amount of Rs. 700/- and service tax thereon is charged. I spoke to the customer care when he expressed his inability to waive the annual fee, I told him that it would be nonsense to hold a card with a meager credit limit with annual charges whereas I have lot of other credit cards which are annual charges free. I mailed through the reply option from the card alerts sent to my mail ID where I got the e-statement showing the debit of annual charges, requested to cancel the card with immediate effect without charging anything to my account i.e. the annual charges and other taxes thereon. So, I hopefully expect that the request will be considered positively and necessary cancellation is done with immediate effect.

Dear Sir,
with reference of my card no [protected] and payment summary due date 28.04.09, you have claimed for card membership fee and other charges amounting Rs 2172.24. I'd like to inform you that I had taken this card which was free from membership fee. If this is chargeable then you are free to cancel my card as I'm not using this very frequently(as it is evident from transaction details).

HSBC Bank/Credit Card — Credit Card Charges

This is with reference to my credit card no. ([protected]), which is now been blocked by your Bank. I have been receiving bills from your bank claiming that there is non-payment of dues from my side to the bank.

I would like to bring to your notice the following facts which you can independently verify from your bank records:

I had not received my bill for a particular month because of which I did not make payment for the bill. On realizing that the payment is due, I immediately made the payment. Then I called the bank official to reverse the charges and they agreed that they will the same. On receiving the next month’s bill, I noticed that only ‘late payment charges’ were reversed and not the ‘financing cost’. I have made all the payments for the purchases I have made on the card. I called up the bank to reverse the other charges as well but they did not do so. This went into dispute and after which none of your officials have been able to understand my issue. The disputed amount initially was only around Rs. 400 but which has now increased to Rs. 4, 000. Many officials have called me but none has been able to answer to my query of why I should be penalized for the fault of the bank official. On the top of all this your bank official who calls me are not aware of the whole issue and every time I have to explain to them after which they just tell me that they cannot do anything on this and will get back to us. I have sent several mails on this to the email ids mentioned on the ‘grievance redressal’ of your website. I have not received any satisfactory reply to it and all the replies that I received are not within the time limit specified on the website.

Your bank officials have harassed and threatened me on phone to make the payment. On getting really tired on this I asked for amicable settlement to get rid of the calls instead of no fault of mine. But the lady made personal comments which I could not accept and asked her to call me later on which she never did.

I think the issue is not being attended purposely so that the charges go on increasing and I am scared of the threatening by your officials.

You will have to answer me the following queries:

1. If the fault was mine for making late payment, then why did the official confirm me the reversal of the charges on phone?
2. Why am I being penalized for the fault of your bank official?
3. Why were my queries not answered on time?
4. Why are your people calling me without doing there home work?
5. How can your official make personal comments like “Sir, payment kar do na, aap to bahot kanjoos ho. Do hazar rupaiye mein appka kya jayega”. This will be taken up very seriously by me even in the consumer court.

Request you to please look into the matter as soon as possible and reverse the charges since they are wrongly charged. Failure to get any response to this letter will force me to file complain under the Banking Ombudsman Scheme.

Nirav Shah

THIS mail is a reply os the letter no cct/ak/[protected]/dated 18may 2009.
Dear Sir:

Last month statement you have mentioned my due is thirty thousand six hundred seventy three and forty four paise (30, 673.44). I paid on cheque full amount (cheque No. 000502 dt. 15.4.09 - Rs. 30, 673/-) This amount was cleared and I hope in my account there is no balance. This month's statement I received, you have mentioned finanace charges - Rs. 203.66 and service tax assessment Rs. 20.94, total purchase, 0.44. And the total comes - Rs. 224.74. Since my due date is May 25, 2009, I paid this amount. Why and what is the reason you charged me 224.74. Last statement I paid full amount 10 days before due date and how it is possible this month's statement comes as 224.74 as my charge. I cannot understand why you are taking money from the customers simply. I am holding other bank credit cards, they never charge like this after clearing the statement. You give me proper explanation and credit this amount back to my card account. If you continue to charge like this I will not deal with your card any transaction hereafter.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

D. Lincoln

HSBC Bank Credit Card — Unauthorized transaction

On 7th February 2009, HSBC charged my credit card with 2000 Rs with the transaction name as Primary Card membership fee. Since i left the country and my credit card expired long back, i stopped checking my credit card statements which are sent to me by email. They kept adding late charges to my credit card and i didnt know anything about this until i got an email from HSBC threatening me that they will report my file to CIBIL. Before they charged me with 2000 Rs, i had 631.97 Rs in Credit in my account. I am ok with losing the money which i had in credit in my account but i want my credit card account with HSBC closed and i definitely dont want my file to be reported to CIBIL.
