I have been a customer of HDFC bank since 2013.
This is regarding constant harassment and unauthorized debit in my savings bank account against the unjustified dues of HDFC bank credit card that I owned between 2016 and 2019.
Please see the sequence of events below.
August 2019: My HDFC ALLMILES credit card with the last 4 digits 8XXX expired. At this time, I had to make a payment of approx INR 1000. I don't remember the exact amount since its been more than 2.5 years now. The bank had dispatched a new credit card with a different card number (ending with 1XXX).
September 2019: the new card (ending with 1XXX) dispatched at my address never got delivered to me and was returned to the sender. in the meantime, I got an intimation from the bank that the payment on my card is due for the month of August. However, I wasn't able to make the payment since my original card with last 4 digits 8XXX had expired and got removed from the system and I didn't have the entire number of my new credit card (ending with 1XXX). I talked to several HDFC customer care representatives and even visited HDFC gachibowli hyderabad branch for a resolution. I was assured that I need not worry and the new card will be dispatched again and no late payment fees would be levied.
October 2019: the new card is still not dispatched and my savings account was debited for INR 830 without my permission or any intimation. I again called bank representatives and was assured that the new card will be delivered and my outstanding will be adjusted against the balance of new card.
December 2019: my savings account was debited again for INR 870 without my permission, intimation or consent
February 2020: my savings account was debited again for INR 930 without my permission, intimation or consent
During this while, I was consistently following up with the bank about the status of my credit card and when (and if) it will be dispatched.
September/October 2020: the new card is still not dispatched and my savings account was debited for INR 590 and 630 in September and October, again without my permission or any intimation. I started getting calls from bank executives for amount recovery to which I replied that I had already raised this issue with the bank. I talked to one of your bank executives (Name RAXXX - Contact no 7XXXXXXXXX) and was assured that this will be taken care of and need not pay any bill for now. Raghu had assured that he will provide me a resolution in the month of October and asked to ignore calls from credit card customer care for now.
I didn't get any calls for the month of November 2020. I assumed this has been taken care of.
December 2020- my savings account was again debited for INR 1450 without my permission, intimation or consent
In 2021 - my account was debited 8 times for a sum of INR 10, 490 - each time I was neither informed nor anyone took any permission to debit my account
Now, I am getting calls that I need to pay an additional 1000 INR to avoid incurring additional interest and late payment fees and the total outstanding on the credit card is over INR 21, 000.
During all this while, I made more than a dozen visits to banks, more than 50 calls to customer care executives but to no avail. My account had already been charged in excess of ~17, 800 in 15 transactions since October 2019 - which is again total harassment and violation of my rights. I had no knowledge of these transactions until today when I was informed by the supervisor of a collection agent about the last transaction of Dec 2021 for INR 2, 070. It was only when I saw my account statements for last 2.5 years, I realized so many debits without my permission.
Every time I get a call, I have told them that I am ready to pay the initial outstanding that I had on my credit card in September 2019. However, the bank has already charged me at least 10 times over it .
I request you to:
1. Please credit the INR 17, 800 debited from my savings account without my permission.
2. Clear the charges on the credit card (~21, 000) since I was never delivered that credit card in the first place.
3. My savings account not be debited without my consent in future
4. Please share the original outstanding on my credit card as of September 2019- which I am more than happy to pay and clear.
This has been a long ordeal and harassment - which has left a sour taste for HDFC brand.
HDFC Bank customer support has been notified about the posted complaint.
