Sir/Madam,
Being a SBI customer, I have been maintaining a Savings Bank A./c vide No.[protected] since 4 years back. Subsequently, I had made 3 nos ( TD A/c Nos. [protected], [protected] and [protected]) of Fixed Deposit of Rs.100000/- each aggregating Rs.300000/- at contractual interest rate of 10.5% p.a. on 21.11.2008 of which date of maturity was 18.08.2011 and aggregate maturity value was Rs.398688/-. After maturity, I visited the Sahagunj branch of SBI for renewal of the abovesaid TDs. While receiving the renewed TDs today on 24.08.2011 it was observed that instead of matured value of Rs.398688/-, it was renewed only Rs.389451/-. While asking the reason of reduction of maturity value, I was told that TDS of Rs.9237/-over a period of 3 years has been applied. I clarified that I am a non tax payer and housewife by profession. As per IT Act, as I could not submit form 15G ( though there was no intimation from bank regarding deduction of tax), bank has deducted at source, as I was told by the Deputy manager of Sahagunj Branch. Then I pleaded that, ok, as Tax has been deducted at source over a period of 3 financial years viz. 2008-09, 09-10 and 10-11, why not a single TDS certificate under Form 16A has not been sent to me/my recorded address nor intimated prior to deduction of tax also, despite my PAN ( No. APGPM1715B) was recorded since long back in SB A/c linked with all the TDs. Deputy manager told that there is no way of refund by submitting return for claim to IT dept for FYs 2008-09 and 2010-11 as SBI is unable to give Form 16A for the relevant period, however for the tax deducted for FY 2010-11 may be provided which may take time till end of Sept, 2011 and I was advised to meet after September, 2011.
In view of the above, I am surprised of such kind of dilly-dally service in todays banking age. I want immediate redressal of my greivance and compensation of monetary loss for defecient service of the concerned employee/s of the Bank.
Regards,
Mitali Mondal
