[Resolved]  Barclay Credit Card — Trapping in Priority Circle offer

They have activated some offer called priority circle offer. and debited 5000 and service tax on my account. But I have not received any gift or any document . They had called up in Feb 08 and told that you are selected as a special customer by Barclay Card, so we are giving you this offer. You will get life time discount of 20% to 30% every shopping, dining, etc. you will get so many other benefits. But I have not received any gift or any thing or any document even. When I enquired about this they told when you will have to pay the amount then you will get this offer. When I knew this I requested to cancel the offer in March. They had taken the request and assured me of reversal. I kept on asking the customer care but everytime they say that your request in under process. Once I got a call from Barclay's saying The offer is deactivated on your card and you don't have to pay anything. But In the statement the amount has increased as they have charged late fees and other charges. It is now 3 months but my request for cancellation is still under process. My card is suspended and the amount on my card is increasing every month though I have got nothing. I have also written mail to Barclay. But there is no action taken. The custmore care service is worst. It is extreme mental harassment for me. They will lure you of many offers on phone but not give anything in written.

I was called up by barclaycard on 25th june 2008 and they told me that you have been selected for barclay card priority circle offer. You have to pay Rs 5000 + service tax next to next statement.. My billing date is 5th july 2008 so it should get generated on 5th august 2008. I was told that i would recieve the gift vouchers for life time free some dinning discounts and other gift vouchers for travel and all. Also a free gift (A travel bag) worth Rs. 2000 will be free. I will also enjoy a grace period of 20 days to return the same. I have not recieved any gift as of yet and they have charged me in the bill of 5th july. When i called up and asked why i have been charged when i have not recieved anything... they told me that you have to first make the payment and then you ll recieve the vouchers. On hearing this I asked to cancel the offer but they denied and said it cannot be cancelled.

I think this is too much fraud on the barclaycard side and they dont even bother...
Even the customer car is bogus some of the number do not even work and the bsnl number i have to try for 1 or 2 hrs then it gets connected.

I hope nobody else falls in the trap of barclay card

Also I am having a 21 days grace period currently. This has been mentioned in there website of barclaycard.
Clause number 2b, that this particular offer is voluntary and user can also quit the offer in the 21 days grace period. They can withdraw the offer when the user is in 21 days grace period. But when i called the customer care they said you can't withdraw/cancel the offer. Check out the link.

My name is mahender, i have received a call two months back for the offer of Priority Circle membership Fee. i called them given my concern that i want to cancel the card and i don't want the offer but customer care persons are refused saying that it can not be reversed once it is charged. Now i am charged 418 rupees interest + service tax of 36% for this month. Though i don't want the card there is no point to pay the this fee. i am trying to contact the priority circle people since one months but i am not able to reach them. Please let me know i course of action to be taken against

I been called up by berclaycard, and told that i will be offered 5000 rs as an offer to the card, I agreed to take the cards and told i will submit required document. But after seeing above comments. I decided to withdraw the offer. And if he calls to me, I will really suck'm out

Barclays is supposed to be one of the leading and true International player in Banking. I have lived and travelled intensivley in Europe and have witnessed the kind of customer care shown.

Assuming the same i had agreed to apply for a Barclay Credit Card when one of its sales executives called up. To my sruprise there is no online service where one can check their current balance and transactions. On one particular instance my purchases have gone more than my available credit balance, and a letter has been sent to me quoting the above reason and my card has been deactivated will be deactivated untill i cleared the dues. ( in reality, i had paid well more and above the minimum mentioned payment for that month ). I was so embarassed to read that letter. Same day when i got this letter, i called up on 6000 4444 and spoke to one these executives and explained her the situation. How can a statement like that be made and mailed to a customer who has no prior intimation on his available balance (where there is no online service to check the same nor an SMS or call informing that one is about to go over the available balance?). I then requested the customer care executive to arrange me a call back on the kind of poor service, for which i was promised for a call back in 48 hours. Which i never did. I call them back after a week and the same story and promise is repeated saying that we are sorry and will make sure that I will get a call back with in 48 hours. But all in vain.

After all this i called up the customer service executive and spoke to a guy named : "Sandeep" on 19th August 2008, between 2 and 3 PM. He was clueless on what he was talking and his customer support skills are a big 0. I try to expalin him the situation (priority circle offer), he says that i have to call the priority circle and make the payment. (But Y should i make a separate payment? when the sum of 5000 Rs and odd has been debited from my available credit card balance and i have paid my credit card bill well on time and with descent current available balance) Is this not a kind of purchase?

Finally i tell him that since I am having a very bad experience (customer service) from Barclays, i would want to cancel my credit card. Instead of being apologetic, this is the response i get : "you can not cancel unless you clear the outstanding amount. Once you clear that, then you may place a request to cancel and take it up further".

This is a disgrace to BARCLAYS in employing such customer service executives. Hope BARCLAYS reads this complaint of mine and do the needful in not losing any more customers.

Barclays Credit Card — Priority Membership Offer against credit card over telephone without written consent

I want to bring to your notice a malpractice that is being practiced by some of the banks. I myself have been a victim of such practice.
Barclay's people were after me to take their card. Unfortunately I took it. Real adventure began once I received the card. On one day, I received a call from Barclays; the lady on the other side told me that I have been picked up by Barclays as an esteemed customer and they would like to send me few gifts so they need my address and they need to record my consent in terms of Yes or No so that they can send me the gifts. When I enquired, I was told that these gifts are free of charges but surprisingly this part was not recorded. To my surprise, I see Rs 5618 levied under my card. When I followed up quality department said that I have given my consent. It was a shock. I think the people hired by Barclay's are experienced professional who can mess with the recording system.
And i think the consent has to be written. Over Phone anybody can mess with the system.
This a big flaw in the Barclays system which they are using in their favour.

But I have not received any gift or any thing or any document even. When I enquired about this they told when you will have to pay the amount then you will get this offer. When I knew this I requested to cancel the offer in June. They again told me that this offer never deactivated. I told that even i am not getting anything from you than how this offer not deactivated.
I am also the victim of barclay credit crads.
i have not been given any confirmation from my side
to any membership of braclay credit card.and i surprised when see the my credit card stattement.they are cheeting to the people.where i need to go.
Lets follow the following steps:
* Send the card for cancellation first.
* Register a FIR in your local PS against Barclays for harassment and false charging and kind of money laundering.
* Send a CP to these with a caveat that if this goes any further we will file a case in consumer court.
* And in the meantime we can go through the process of filing a case in Consumer Court.

Hello everybody if you are reading this post your comment on it and lets take these steps before it spirals out of our hand and reaches the point when they can falsely implicate you for accepting this offer.

I am also a victim as you people are. Barclay has made my life hell. One fine morning it was a Sunday 25th Oct, 2008, they called and promised me some priority circle offers. They have not told anything about the charges for the same. Now I came to know from one of my friend that it costs Rs. 6K+. On that very day I mean on monday 26th Oct, 2008 I have called the priority circle customer care to cancel the offer. They told clearly once activated it can not be canceled. Then I have written a mail on 31st Oct, 2008 to [protected]@barclays.com about the same mentioning the fact that I don't want to enjoy such a nasty facility from such a worst company. Also told them that I will cancel the card and refund it to them, if they did not help me out. I have not received any reply till now. Where as from last 10days I am mentally harassed by the customer care of Barclay for the payment of the same. But things to be noted that I have requested for the cancellation of the offer just after the day it is been activated. Also given a written request which has not been considered at all. Above all the great achievement is they have not sent any kit which they have promised in this scheme. I don't know what is their notion about the intelligence of the customers they are having. Whatever the most ridiculous fact is now their customer cares are telling that pay Rs 350 which is the minimum payable amount for the bill, then they can take the request of the cancellation . So the facts comes into picture is, the cancellation request can only be taken on payment of Rs. 350 out of nothing. I have again written a mail to them that if they continues calling me for the payment of this amount I will take a legal action in this case. When I have called Priority Circle customer care they threatened me that they will listen to the record of the conversation of that very day and will decide accordingly.

So what I thought of doing is not to pay a single rupee to them and in this concern we should file a case in consumer court to make the crap business of this company to an end.

In all cases stated no where it is mentioned about written consent being taken before charging membership charges which is a must.Everything that the sales people tell you about the scheme is verbal.In my view, in absence of written agreement the bank has no authority to even call the customer for asking them to pay for the false commitments. The need at this hour is to unite and fight against this fraudulent activity of Barclay Priority Circle.
We all should get together and take legal action against the Bank.
I am sick of getting calls from Barclay for a loan which I have never asked/applied.Suddenly in the midst of a meeting there will be call, I receive 2-3 calls daily for this bloody loan from Barclay & everytime I refused but they never updated in the system that this customer doesn't need a loan.I have told them that I will send back your card but there is no effect.

A SBI Credit card agent requested be to just sign on Barcleys CC application form but I refused
I told him that It is not just a matter if sign at 3-5 places, I know the complications of credit card.
