I have been facing the same problem and response but things are worse since end Jun. They have given me another improved device which has a better signal strength and a slightly better driver. It seems that the Taiwan company ZTEIT could not develop a good device driver and the interface properly.
The driver installation was never smooth and did not comply to the USB/Windows norms. The GUI did not reflect the connection status. Even when the connection was not there for long it it showed as connected and working well. I am surprised that the BSNL has no verification before launching this product nationally. I really suspect that they do have a scalable backbone and an application. The worst is that they are selling the product without proper support staff.

Frequent failure during access

I am suffering from link failure while accessing last 5 days from22.08.2009 .Sometimes it becomes worse as no link during sometimes.I have reported several times to the BSNL and even phoned to the local office 3 times these days.But till now the problem persists and they are not doing nothing.

My residence is in Jadavpur area. I have registered several complaints both through 2198 as well as through 'Dataone' (1504) since I got the broad band connection in June 2009.The problem continues to recur frequently.
Yesterday morning I got a call from the telephone exchange enquiring about my specific problem. I told them regarding repeated link failures. Then in the evening (about 4.30 p.m) I got another call asking me to check whether the link has been restored. After checking I found that the link had indeed been restored. I therefore replied in the affirmative. However, after half an hour the 'link' started 'blinking' every 5 minutes or so (as used to happen earlier) and I had to reconnect 'broadband' several times. The problem persisted throughout the rest of the day (upto 11 p.m). Today, the problem is persisting till the time of writing this comment.

Same Problem Here At Konnagar. Near Kolkata...
I HAVE GOT A BROADBAND INSTALLED AT MY PLACE IN SALT LAKE. THE NO IS 23586257. THE BROADBAND HAS NOT WORKED FROM THE DATE OF INSTALLATION. NO BODY FROM CUSTOMER CARES PICK UP THE PHONE. WHENEVER WE CALL 1504 THEY SIMPLY SEND A SMS SAYING THE CONNECTION RESTORED. TILL DATE NO BODY FROM BSNL HAS COME TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
