[Resolved]  HSBC Credit Card — Resolving outstanding credit card issues

My name is Indrani Kakati, working as an Engineer in Powergrid Corpoartion India Ltd., a Govt. of India undertaking. I am a holder of HSBC Gold Card No : [protected] expiry 06/09. I had started using the card in November 2007. On 14.11.07 I had balance transferred to the HSBC card an amount of Rs. 46000.00. In between I have also made transactions/purchases from the HSBC card. After that I have been continuously paying for the dues on receipt of the credit card statements. Now after holding the card for more than a year, I received the credit card statement of 12.12.08 to 11.01.09 stating that my outstanding amount has been Rs. 105202.85. At the same time around I received a call from HSBC customer service stating that a minimum payment of Rs. 10673.42 was due. Now seeing such an overdue amount I contacted HSBC's cusotmer service deptt. through calls to get an analysis of as to how the outstanding has reached to such a high extent, however I would receive a call everyday stating that the matter can be sorted out but first the minimum amount of Rs. 10673.42 has to be paid. Now for the past one year and more I have been making continuous payments. But at the rate the interest charges has been levied it seems my outstanding would never get cleared. After several days of trying to contact HSBC's customer care finally i was able to get through the customer service deptt. on 22.01.09. Accordingly I requested for them to send me a copy of the mail of all the statements from Nov'07 so that I can know the exact amount I have spent and the amount I have paid. The lady at the other end told me that it shall not be possible to send all the statements, but she can organise to send a few statements so that I can have an overview. On 23.01.09 i received the foll. statements 12.12.08-11.01.09; 12.10.08-11.11.08; 12.09.08-11.10.08;12.07.08-11.08.08; 12.06.08-11.07.08;11.05.08-11.06.08. Nov-Dec and Aug-Sep are missing between this. On checking the 6 statements I have found on an initial synopsis that the total purchases made on this card for the foll time has been Rs. 71016.4, amount paid has been Rs. 40002.13 and interest charges levied is Rs. 21134.5. Now this is an alarming situation. This high rate of interest charging would mean that any amount i pay, it shall keep on goin to the interest charges and my actual purchasing amount would remain as it is, This also means that HSBC would keep on levying the interest charges till my credit limit has exceeded i.e. the amount becomes to the tune of Rs. 150000/- and then hand it over to the recovery agents. Regarding the same, i have also sent a mail to [protected]@hsbc.co.in and [protected]@hsbc.co.in. The reply i received from HSBC through mail was that the cannot be resolved and i will have to pay the total outstanding.

Kindly help me in resolving this issue.

HSBC — HSBC Credit Crad issue

Hi,

I Was holding a HSBC card and i stoped using the crad after confirming from customer care that there is no outstanding against the card as on date in the month of Jan 2005 and droped HSBC Card.

Suddenly i received a letter from HSBC about outstanding against in card of RS 15, 927/-. Some collection agents also visited my home. i tried to contact customer care but could not reach them as my card was expired. I visited NOIDA (Sec 18) branch and met several people but ultimetly i was redirected to Mr. Hitesh Arora. During my discussion with him i asked for a statmement against which i had to pay the amount. He denied the statement but confirmed that it is not against any purchase but its against the late payment fees.

We negotiated to a amount of 2000/-. After that i visited 7 times HSBC branch and called him atleast 50 times to settle the issue. Now every month they are sending me the new statement with additional 800/-. Also they are threatning me to put my name on defaulter list.

Please suggest a way to solve this issue. I am planing to file a complain agaist the bank in consumer forum.
Any help in this issue will be highly appreciated.

regards,
Rajeev

You must take stronger action with regards to HSBC put your complaint in writing to their Senior Manager at Arlington, register the letter, then ask for their final response. Once you have this go to the Banking Ombudsman. Don't take any phone calls and should they start to harrass you make a note of every phone call for the OFT. There are thousands of people out there now having trouble with HSBC. What has happened to the Bank I don't know, I don;t recognise them anymore.
Dear Indrani,

I think you must immediately pay the outstanding. Do it whenever you have got some money in hand and try to do it in one go. If required, take a personal loan, that's better than credit card dues.Legally, you HAVE to pay the dues to the bank. The outstanding can be 'x', you can pay minimum amount 'y' but interest for amount x-y will keep accumulating months after months. Worse, they compound the interest on a monthly basis and if you just keep paying only the 'minimum' amount, huge outstanding will result after a few months. I have a friend, who started with an outstanding of Rs. 60, 000 (approx). Now he has very high outstanding, approx 4 lac and is trapped. This is how the banks earn profit from credit card business. This is American way of making profit and the American way of living life. Please avoid it. Pay your outstanding AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. Come out of this trap asap and destroy the card after formally closing with the bank.

I have done the same thing with a StanChart card. Now I have a credit card but I have linked it to a savings account with auto pay facility. So I never have tio pay any late fee or interest. If you must have to use a card, use this menthod.

Never think that Credit Cards give you free credit. This is business, dirty business.

Regards,

Ravi
Even I am facing same problem.

A card was issued on my name on 2006. I had never used that card and it was closed that time. After 3years I am getting bill with outstanding of 1, 37, 000.00. When I called to customer care, no response from them. They say, as the card is closed, they can't send any communication about the card. Such a bad bank it is.

HSBC Credit Card — Troubles with Credit Card

Call center guy approaches us stating we are providing life long free card.
We say that I have no requirement, then they say please accept it is completely free.
After owning the credit card there starts the problem if you don't use it regularly.

I am owning a HSBC credit card(6639), after one year they have levied Rs2000 as annual charges.
After requesting callcenter people for several times, they have rolled back the levied charges.
My card validity date completed & I have not taken my new card because just to avoid annual charges I don't want to do unnecessary purchases with my card.

Even I am not having the HSBC credit card, I got a message that I have to pay 2000 as annual charges fro the card I am holding.
After a month I got a message stating if payment is not done, I cannot avail any loans from any bank if this payment is not done.

Please some one help me on this.

Regards,
Krishna

this is worst card i seenin my life.
I am also getting calls suddenly after cancellation of cards three months back and now they are asking to pay some 450 rupees as outstanding in my card. And at the time of cancellation their executive confirmed me that there is no outstanding in my account and my card will get cancelled within 3-5 days which I got confirmed after logging on the site.

Now they are calling me regularly and asking for payment. It looks like that they don't have any ethics and running their business like this. This is really bad about such a large bank and I have never faced problem like this with other banks... such a misleading bank. I don't know who can take strict action against these and afraid they will pass wrong feedback to CIBIL.
Hi Indira,

you are on to the same boat as i was. I had 40000/- to be paid off as my outstanding and i had paid 35, 000/- in that i had given 10000/- as cash amount for which they had provided with a receipt, this was 5 years before, and onto shifting house here and there, i had misplaced my receipt. But definetely the bankers will have a duplicate copy of it for which they deny saying that they dont keep any records like that more than 3 months, it is unbelievable. Now, they are asking me to pay 17000/- instead of 5000/- which was remaining to pay off. I had agreed to pay that also, but they said that i need to pay 7500/- i.e 2500/- is a foreclosure charges i have to pay. I am still defending that i will not pay that 2500/- unneccessarily and now they have come up with 17000/-. You agree to pay only the usage amount you have used on your card. Dont ever agree to pay the outstanding amount of what they have charged but definetely pay the charges you have used after a confirmed discussion in writting.

Regards,
Rita.
