I had given a simple letter to be couriered urgently to my relative in Mulki, Mangalore from Andheri (East), Mumbai on 2nd Feb2009 Afternoon. I was been told the same would reach the destination by 4th Feb2009. However, the consignment didnt reach Mulki even by evening 4th Feb2009. The same was then enquired on 5th Feb2009. On enquiry, I was surprised to know that the consigment was at Bangalore after reaching Mulki (I was told told that the address given by me in Mulki was not servicable destination). By 5th evening, I was then told that First Flight can maximum deliver my consignment back in Mumbai by 6th Feb09. After receiving, I should then use some other courier service for my consignment. I fail to understand the scheme of things here. Just look at the days wasted due to First Flights inefficient service. If consignment reached Mulki then why not the address. Is First Flight station office located at every one's doorstep like residence phone number?. It is like saying "First Flight has station office in Andheri West but we donnot deliver at your home located within Andheri West". Then what is the purpose of setting up courier service & why should anyone make use of courier service. In my case, my letter would have reached the destination on time if sent by Indian Postal Service just because of First Flight's inefficiency & false claims. If it was non-servicable station, then why did First Flight take full courier charges from me & made false claim of deliverable. To make it easy, I had given my relative as well as my phone number. But First Flight didnt even care to call up and inform about the issue. I have already spent Rs50 on this & would have to again spend another Rs50 for resending the consignment through some other service. First Flight should learn from this. It is not about money, it is about the pain & inconvenience caused by them. If you cannot provide service, the same should be informed to the customer & not siphon money from them. I am at a great loss since I had to urgently send my consignment which had to reach Mulki, Mangalore by 4th Feb09. Now I donnot know what to do since resending on Friday(6th Feb09) would mean the consignment would reach Mangalore by 9th Feb09 (sine Sunday 8th Feb09, courier services donnot work).
May be consumers should take written acknowlegment from such courier services for deliverablity of service. If not delivered, we should have right to sue them.
