Sir,
I am a Credit Card Holder of HDFC Bank. I did paid all the dues in time but recently (10.08.12) I received a letter from HDFC stating that, I have dues of Rs. 5365.00 and the same is pending for several months and even after several communications I didn’t respond to it.
Fact is that, after my last due payment (Rs. 2700.00 I paid Rs. 2800.00) I had no transaction in between or dues within the specified period, nor I had received any intimation letter stating the dues. To my utter surprise, I was warned through the letter to face legal action if I don’t pay the dues immediately.
From 13.08.12 onwards I am having calls from the bank for clearing the dues. While asked why they didn't send the statements regularly they complained that we have changed out address. But as we did notify the Post Office to divert letters to our new address we received all letters in time, Surprisingly, till now we didn’t get any statements from HDFC bank (for address change) but got the notification letter after 10 months (in same address), when the dues rise to Rs.5365.00 from Rs. 290.00 without any further transactions. Even that Rs. 290.00 due statement did not came to us. I came to know all this while I asked for the statement over phone and they send me the same day.
Considering the above, I don’t think I am anywhere liable for the irresponsibleness about the important intimation, which directly involved with monetary transaction and apply charges for the delay in payment. If there was any intimation regarding unpaid amount /dues in time, I should have paid the same well before the dues jump up to 19 times. Please note that, as there were no transactions/dues, I had no requirement/intension to contact the bank asking for the statement.
I want to discontinue the card but they are asking for full payment. Please suggest what to do.
Your co-operation is highly appreciated.
Thanking You,
Ranendra P Das
