I hold a health insurance policy (called Reliance Healthwise-Silver) of Reliance General Insurance for the last four years. The currently is due for renewal on 15th March 2011. I have received a policy renewal premium payment notice. The notice has indicated a premium amount of Rs16324/ which is almost five times more than what I had paid (Rs3634/) last year. I donot understand what would be the reason for such a huge and arbitrary increase in the premium while the annual inflation is less than 15%.

I have raised this concern with IRDA. Apparently IRDA has approved this increase. Neither IRDA nor Reliance has given any feasible reasoning for this huge increase in one year.I suspect that ther is a collusion between IRDA and the Reliance general Insurance.Should the GOI accept such an exorbitant increase in the premium in one year even if the cost of treatment etc has risen.

There must be some way to allay the customers' concern and particularly for someone like me who is senior citizen. I hope that the forum will take it up at appropriate level for mitigation.

I am having Healthwise Gold policy for past 4 years with Reliance General Insurance, I haven't made any claim till now. The total premium paid by me put together for the past 4 years of Policy is INR 5643.

The last premium paid by me is INR 1376, the premium asked by Reliance for renewal of policy is 6187, which is 450% in premium. There is no explanation for this unbelievable increase in premium.

This is a fraud company who wants to throw out the customers. Never deal with Reliance General Insurance.

        Respected Sir,
I am a policy holder of Reliance healthwise policy number [protected] plan silver, paid already two times and now i received for a renewal of my policy of renewal premium of morethan 400% which cannot be accounted by any measure.

Previously i paid first premium in 2009 as Rs.3000/-, now (2011) i received Rs.11,320/- is a gross amount, after 10% no claim discount it was stating 10,188/- net renewal premium. No medical investigation or procedure has increased to this extent over the last one year. It is wrong to charge people living tier 2 & 3 cities in the country for anomalous increase in some corporate hospitals existing in the major metros. It is also wrong to charge existing policy holders with known health history and claim status at par with new comers.

All the more any hike of morethan 100% over and existing premium contradicts Policy Wording for Reliance Healthwise Policy, under terms & conditions, page no.6, item 20 subheading Renewal notice. A copy of the same is attached herewith for your kind perusual.

I have contacted Reliance General Insurance Customer care for this many times by mail and on phone, but there is no use from their reply, all the staff are helpless in this matter for giving special discount for existing customers from this abnormal hike.

Hence, i request your office please intervene this matter and take necessary steps to solve my problem with Reliance General Insurance Company cheating techniques keeping inview of policy holders.

          Dear Sir,

I have been holding RELIANCE GENERAL INSURANCE Healthwise Policy Plan Gold, Current Policy No [protected], valid till 19/02/2011 for sum of Rs 200000/-(Rupees Two Lakhs). This healthwise policy was taken by me from M/s Reliance General Insurance since 20th Feb 2007. The policy has been renewed regularly and my premium for the last renewal was Rs 2658/- inclusive of tax and No claim Discount. Till date there has been no claim from my side.

However the renewal notice by the Reliance General Insurance dated 4/11/2010 has put me in a great shock as the gross premium demanded from me for the Gold Plan which I am currently holding is Rs 18336/-(Rupees Eighteen thousand Three Hundred Thirty Six) The net after no claim discount comes to Rs 14669/-. which works out to 6.5 times or roughly 650% increase. This exorbitant unreasonable increase is effected without any claim from my side. The reason they have been quoting is increase in the treatment costs.

In spite of my contacting the company helpline and explaining, the problem has not been addressed. The insurance firm is asking me to switch over to standard plan, from the Gold plan which i hold and seeking a premium of Rs 8796/-. I fail to understand the logic behind the increase to such an extent, and seek suitable redressal.

          Thanking You

          Yours faithfully

            dear sir,
respectfully I have to say that I have a fiat palio car no HR01Q 4054 insured by reliance general insurance company. on 20 January 2010 my car got fire. I call fire officers and after a lot of efforts I could not stop to burn it. I informed reliance at their toll free no and get claim no [protected] same day. the local officer of reliance told me to send my car to service center for preparing estimate. after two days I asked reliance for claim proceedings they told me to send them estimate for claim. I send the estimate by hand to them with in the week of that claim and it appears that it will be full claim of the insurance value because the repair value is higher than total sum assured. after three months when I did not get any response for them I call to their toll free number they told me that the papers are not completed till that day. after asking to their local office I come to know that the surveyor did not submit his report to the higher authority. after call him time and again he submit his report to his officers.when ever I asked him about the parking charges for the car charged by the service center he gave us assurance that he will make arrangement for wave off these charges.
after nine months he send a proposal to his higher authorities for cash loss settlement of the claim for which he did not get our consent.
after calling him a number of times we send a letter to their local office that we have to go to IRDA if they will not settle our claim in a week and send a mail to their higher officer in Delhi a mail in this matter and request to change the surveyor for my claim.
but after ten months of my claim when parking charges of more than rupees fifty thousand accrued by delay of decision maid by insurance company I could not get my claim settlement.
sir I request you that please look into this matter and if possible make a rule of paying this parking charge by the insurance company in case of full claim because after full claim the car will be the property of the insuranse company than why the customer pay the parking charge for that. In case of repair there will be no parking charges. the delay in finalization of claim is maid by insurance company and the insurance company want to load these charges on customer. s
sir if there is a rule for these charges for insurnse company they come to know the value of late settlement of claims.
I am attaching here the copy of the mail which i send to reliance.
I will be highly greatfull of you if you provide me right judgment and it will help me to have faith in inuranse because if there is no jstified judgement given to me how I have faith in life or genral insuranse.

I received premium renewal notice for Reliance general insurance. I was shocked to see the increase in the premium to 4 times. My last year's premium was 3463. I got NCB of 5 %. But my renewal premium this year is 1439 which is 4 times. There is a note in the premium notice which reads :

"We would like to inform you that the premium rates have been revised providing for the increase in the illnesses and the treatment costs."

Are the treatment rates increased 4 times in 1 year?

I believe that the company is cheating their customers once the 2 yrs period is over. Now they have to support the existing diseases if any.

Need help and guidance in sorting this out.

My Hyundai-i10(Reg Num: DL 7C J 2945) was robbed by some criminals at gun point on 2nd Oct-2009. They looted all the cash and jewelry I'd at that time, and then after tying me, they'd dropped me in some near-by Jungle. They'd also taken all my car documents like RC, Insurance Papers etal.

I informed the local police station about the incident on 2nd Oct, 2009 itself, but couldn't inform Insurance company same day, because I was in trauma, and moreover I was going to get married on next day i.e. 3rd Oct, 2009.

The incident happened to me near my home town (where my wedding was planned); however I live in some other city. Once I came back from my home town, I intimated the insurance company about the incident on 22nd Oct, 2009.

The IDV of my i10 car was 3.15 L, but Insurance Company is offering me 2.66L after deducting 15% of my IDV, and the reason they are putting is - Delay in Intimation.

I want to know the opinion of Experts for my following questions:
                  1) Is Insurance Company legally justified in deducting 15% of my IDV? What is IRDA guideline for this?
                  2) If they are doing wrong, what are the options I've?

Sub: Survey on our damaged vehicle - KL 38 A 5549 - Lackluster service by your surveyor
                    Ref: Policy No. [protected] --

Our above vehicle met with an accident on 01.11.10 at Trichur. A spot-survey was done there of the vehicle and was permitted to be brought to Thodupuzha, our HQ. We had entrusted the vehicle with a trusted workshop here we duly called for Reliance Survey before the work actually started. We have made several calls and requests for the survey of the vehicle. In the meanwhile a very reasonable estimate has been furnished by the workshop people. It has been observed that inordinate delay has been committed - first to arrive at the spot at Thodupuzha and then to complete the Survey by your Surveyor Mr.Benoi Mathew. He preferred to visit the spot only once and that too on 19.11.10.The repair has been reported by him to be very negligent whereas the spot-survey at Trichur tells a different story. It is unfortunate that your Surveyor has consumed valuable time for his evaluation without any tangible result. Secondly, he is again wasting time waiting for the dismantling of parts for 'body-repair-work' wherever necessary. In our opinion a Surveyor should be in a better position to assess the damage, especially in body-repair work. He neither cared to meet anyone from our side nor he tendered any advise to the Workshop people on the work to be done or the amount permissible. His response to this survey has all along been very lethergic and cursory. His language also seems to be very much intemperate unworthy of a person representing a Mega House like Reliance. It is very very unfortunate that we are being treated like this by a Surveyor designated from your side.

We have made complaints on this to your local people, but unfortunately no response this far.

We have been patronising Reliance Insurance with a business running into Lakhs towards annual premium. Resultantly we have also much expectations on your co-operation and service. But what we are now experiencing is that now regret that we have opted for Reliance Insurance among the plethora of Insurance Companies available in the Market with so much attractive offers. We only request that we should not be constrained to reconsider this association of ours with Reliance Insurance.

Therefore we hereby express our strong protest over this conduct and regret to state that we are greatly disappointed with the present state of affairs with Reliance Insurance.

I invested in Mediclaim Policy from Reliance General Insurance Company Ltd Panjim in the year 2005. I have been regularly renewing the same till date. No intimation is sent to me regarding any renewal and now I have not received the Policy. Its 4 months. The sales Manager and the office people in Panjim are very rude and inefficient. They so not respond at all.

I am repenting for investing my hard earned money in Relaince Mediclaim Policy.

                      Ms. Florence Mendes

                          Dear SIR/MADAM,

This has reference to the subject cited above I have a personal car (Chevrolet spark LT) purchased in June 24 2009.unfortunately it had an accident on june 6th 2010 and claim was forwarded to Reliance GIC. The total loss assesed by the surveyer is Rs 2,61,000/- but Reliance GIC is only giving me recovery amount of Rs 1,85,000/- which I am not satisfied with and total wrong as they have intentionaly deuducted such amount against slavage charges and labour charged which I must get.

So kindly look into it and I want to suit a consumer case against Reliance GIC for the same.

                          Kindly help in this regards.

I have private car policy with Reliance general Insurance for the year 2010-11. last month it got accident and hence i filed related claim to RGICL. since then it more than one month, issue is pending with them.I have tried every way to get the issue cleared but no result at all.
The system in RGICL is very funny and frustrating.
Customer care executives always advised to contact either surveyor or branch office.
Branch office phone never picked up.
you will never get a reply on your mail to any executive.
when you write your complain to Customer service team, the response will came exactly at seventh days and you will be advised to contact again Branch office.

it is more than one month, i got verbal clarification from claim officer that my policy is not supposed to be honored and still she is not ready to issue any official communication.

My advice is friends... never go for any thing which has reliance tag attached to it esp. that of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani. he is biggest fraudster and a failed businessman.once he cheated me with Reliance power IPO and now with this Insurance policy.

                              Dear Sir/Madam,

Sub. renewal amount increased approximately Fourfold by Reliance General Insurance Healthwise (Gold Plan: Policy no. [protected]) -reg.

I am Medical/Health Insurance policy holder of Reliance General Insurance Healthwise Policy (Gold Plan: Policy no. [protected]) for last 3 years and for my Fourth premium I am demanded to pay revised premium Four times of what I paid last year (last year premium Rs. 4,412/- and this year Rs. 20,582/- and Rs. 17,495/- after deducting 15 % No Claim Discount as I have never taken claim since inception of the policy) for renewing this policy in their communication letter.

I do not have any choice if I want to continue same plan. I do not wish to discontinue my policy as I loose all benefits if I buy fresh insurance from any company also I cannot afford to pay revised amount increased four times of last year. Reliance General Insurance has never given any indication at the time of selling this policy to me that sooner or later they will be increasing it to fourfold for renewing policy. Had I known the future I would have rather not taken this plan from Reliance General. I am feeling cheated by Reliance General Insurance. They told that all medical facilities have become costly and hence they have revised it. What happen if One get another communication letter in near future of revising amount and they may demand again more than four times of the amount what they are demanding today.

I have already communicated and shown my discomfort to Reliance General Insurance in paying such an increased amount which has disturbed my budget but I always get two type of automated generic reply that they have done it with the Regulator consent.

Unfortunately, I got same kind of reply (ref. no. Ref:Corp/Griev/1190/10-11 dated 9th Nov 2010) from Reliance General Insurance Company Limited on loding my complaint on 29th Oct 2010 to IRDA also (IRDA Complaint no. 597/REL/COMP/10-11; pls refer IRDA's reply below). But, My complaint shows pending status (i.e. unresolved) until today (23rd November 2010).

                              Type Two

                              Dear Mr. Arora,

Thank you for contacting Reliance General Insurance Customer Service Unit.

This is in response to your queries regarding the revision in the Health wise rate as compared to our previous rates.

Our company assures you that, the decision to increase the premium was taken after much deliberation and is justified on account of a number of factors as referred herein below.

The increase in premium has not been affected with the purpose of dissuading any of our Policy holders from renewing their policies or to discourage new Health Insurance business in Reliance General Insurance Company and it is in fact always our endeavor to satisfy our policy holders and focus on customer loyalty. In so raising the premium rates for the Health Insurance products, the Company has taken various factors under consideration and has complied with all the provisions and guidelines of Insurance Regulatory Development Authority in this behalf.

Some of the factors that, led the company to this decision were the unexpected and sharp increase in inflation rates, it became increasingly difficult for the company to service the coverage issued to customers on the old rates as the medical costs were also increasing simultaneously. Further, the decision to increase the premium rates has also been taken to ensure the continued better servicing of our customers.

Additionally, the following reasons were also considered while revising the Health wise premium rates:
                              1) Health claims Inflation rate,
                              2) Increase in incidences of illness and hospitalization,
                              3) Increase in costs of Health Care.
                              5) Rates prevailing in the present Indian insurance market

To re-assure our product is yet highly competitive with its features and benefits as stated below.

                              1. Family Floater Option

Reliance Healthcare Policy. — Revised in premium

                              Hello Sir,

I have taken Reliance Healthwise policy on 27/08/2008 for my family and my policy no. is [protected]. At the time of taking the policy, the policy amount as Rs. 3560.00 .
Also, I have been told by Customer care executive that policy amount will remain same for through out the life.

Now at the time of renewing my policy for next year, the customer care executive told me that it has been revised and I need to pay Rs14300.00 for the same which is almost 4 times higher than the initial policy amount.

I am feeling cheated as they attract the people to take the policy with low premium rates and then they revise the policy amount whenever they want to.

Could you please assist me what should I do in this scenario?

                              Thanks & Regards
                              Suresh Malunjkar

This happened to me also. I am surprised to see that Reliance is also cheating customers in a Big way.
My premium is revised from 4000 to 18000. (more than 4 times.).
                              This is clear cheating.
I will never trust Reliance going forward..
I am looking for a way to file a compliant with IRDA.

                              Surendra.

                              Dear Sir

I was also cheated by this company this year. My Premium in last year was 3642. Now they are asking 36275. almost ten times. What is this? They are cheating the indian innocent people by saying attractive plans. definetly i will not renew the policy this year. So i loose the continuity. Our sin goes to ambani brothers.

I suggest the people please dont go for Relaince ... it is not a reliable company.

                              with regards

Here is a brief on my Reliance General Insurance Claim No[protected]

My Scorpio vehicle was stolen on 5th November 2009 from the workshop where it was being repaired at , I immediately filed a report and finished all the formalities required then and notified Reliance immediately.

Subsequently their assessors VBA associates had send us a exhaustive list of all documents required by them, which after running between police stations , regional transport offices & court I could finally give them on Aug 2, 2010.(List of documents with 2 sets of original keys handed over Reliance Claim – VBA covering)

After which I tried innumerable times to contact the claim officer of Reliance Mr Anil Solkar Anil.[protected]@relianceada.com who was never available on telephone (either with customers or not on his seat or not in office ) nor would I get a single call back or reply to my mail from him, finally I got through around Sept 8th th , 2010 and Mr Anil Solkar advised me that the head office has sanctioned my claim for Rs 6,10,000/- (5% reduction towards Depreciation) v/s the insured value of Rs 6,42,600/- and I should furnish a notarized “Consent Letter” for the same , which I prepared and sent a Email Scan on Sept 13th , after which I didn’t hear from him for awhile nor could I get him on the telephone, finally I decided to just land up at their Ghatkopar office with a Hard Copy of the letter and asked to see them (they sent a peon out to collect the consent letter who acknowledged the letter and gave the copy to me – attached Reliance Consent Acknowledged.), I mean I have taken the trouble to drive from Santacruz (w) to the Ghatkpar (E) office and was at my wits end. Finally at my insistence Mr Tushar Bhandarkar Tushar.[protected]@relianceada.com finally came out to meet me, and assured me that I had finished all the work from my side and the claim would be settled within 12 working days.

Finally here is what I get a flat rejection saying that the garage guy didn’t provide a watchman for my car and hence they are rejecting my claim (attached Reliance Claim Rejection Letter), in Bombay everyone parks their cars on the roads (locked ofcourse – I have given both sets of original keys to them ) – does this imply that the Insurance doesn’t work if we don’t employ watchmen for locked vehicle’s !! Didn’t they know this 10 months ago before they sent me on a wild goose chase for all kinds of documents.

Why would they ask me for a consent letter for a claim which was approved by them and then reject it is something which doesn’t cease to amaze me..

The only options left to me seem legal i.e Insurance Ombudsam , Consumer Court , Media , Public Greviance Committee (PGC) all of which I understand are processes which would take my time, effort , money & energy which I rather conserve for Positive Actions if I have a choice, else its too much of money for me as a person in adventure sports to loose !

                                    Any advise suggestions appreciated

                                    Peace, Bliss & Happy Landings

Reliance General Insurance Co. is a fraud and crook company. It has been 1 year and 3 months since we are waiting for our claims to settle. The top management and the middle management is quiet inefficient in providing services to its customers. I urge all the customers to avoid buying insurance from such a company. We have forwarded a request to Lucknow office for settling our claim against a stolen vehicle. I plan to file a case against the company to pay for the loss due to time taken in processing the claim request. Today its 11th OCT 2010 and there has not been any assurance from the company about the status of our application. Employees in the company tell us that for the claims above Rs. 5 Lakhs, Mr. Anil Ambani himself clears such cases.

It has been the worst experience in such a big corporate house ever. This is a fraud insurance company and people should be made aware of the same so I shall be filing a case with consumer court so that media educates people to be aware of such fraud companies.

                                      Regards,

                                        Dear Sir/Madam

This is in reference to my FAMILY HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE of Rs. 5,00,000/- from RELIANCE GENERAL INSURANCE CO LTD, I have done this insurance on the 2008 & since then I have paid 2 premiums already (details mentioned below for your ready reference) and now when the renewal time has come again for the tenure of[protected] the RELIANCE GENERAL INSURANCE CO LTD is asking for a Premium which is not possible for me to pay them as it is very much higher in side as the last 2 premiums that I paid was absolutely within my reach. I have recieved a letter from Reliance General Insurance Co ltd yesterday (i.e., 06/10/10) where they the signatory authority has clearly mentioned that the premiums (2 nos) that I paid previously against Rs. 5,00,000/- was wrongly calculated & that they are very apologising for it but my point of contention is when I actually took this INSURANCE way back in 2008 for my family, Reliance General Insurance Co Ltd has never told me that they have wrongly calculated the premiums but now they are saying that the premiums were wrongly calculated. Now my question to INDIAN CONSUMER COMPALINTS FORUM is WHY RELIANCE OFFERED ME SUCH PREMIUMS DURING THE BOOKING OF THE INSURANCE is because they wanted to CAPTURE THE MARKET BY DOING THIS & LATER THEY ARE GOING TO CUT THE THROAT OF THE CUSTOMER LIKE A GOAT??? I need a answer for it as I dont have my easy money with me like MR. ANIL AMBANI PROBABLY HAVE GOT...by doing these things to his CUSTOMER which he FORGETS that what ever today his FATHER & HIMSELF are ALL BECAUSE OF THEIR CUSTOMER'S continuous support towards various investments to RELIANCE.

Today I have realised that why people of India they CURSE RELAINCE like anything.....this is BRAND OR COMPANY has got no respect for the INDIANS. Many of my freinds actually adviced me not to invest any money to this BULL company as they are not at all RELIABLE though their COMPANY name is RELIANCE.....very funny... is nt it???

                                        The details of my Insurance is mentioned below for your ready reference;

                                        1. INSURED AMOUNT - RS. 5,00,000/- 2(RENEWAL EVERY YEAR RATHER)

                                        4. 3RD YEAR PREMIUM RENEWAL AMOUNT - RS. 11882/[protected] which is due to be paid - My question lies here...why this AMOUNT now?? and that I cant be able to pay this amount as its pretty high for me & if I declare to RELIANCE GENERAL INSURANCE CO LTD that I cant be able to pay this premium renewal amount of Rs. 11882/- they will say alright we will then CLOSE this policy for you then what happened to those amount that I paid for last 2years & didnt avail the services too and because of those low premium rates I agreed to continue but now I am in LOSS PRACTICALLY.

However, I must add on with this as well regarding the MIS SPELL of my FIRST NAME i.e., PARATHA instead of PARTHA for which I have requested Reliance to change the same & that they have changed it as per their letter (ENDORSEMENT LETTER) dated 15th october 2009.

Awaiting for your kind response in this regard please.

                                        Thanking you

                                        Warm personal regards

Hi Partha, It seems that they are doing it with all customers. I also received a letter dated 04/09/2010 on Saturday. This will be my 4th payment since purchase of this policy for Gold Plan and the amount they asked me to deposit this time (Rs. 17495/-) is much higher than what I have paid in last 3 renewals all put together and it is almost 4 times of what I paid last year.
I also enquired today at[protected] and at their Noida office no.[protected] and got reply that it is because medical expenses also has increased that's why they have done so.
I was also referring one Netizen's analysis at http://www.consumercourtforum.in/f34/reliance-healthwise-premium-increased-300-a... on howmuch revenue they have collected from customers and howmuch they have spent on settling claims in last years.

Partha> I agree with your views and strongly condemn this unjustifiable increament.

                                        Thanks,
                                        Ravinder
