Asianet as a pioneer in the Malayalam TV media, is quite popular, providing wholesome entertainment. But it is under serious threat, because of the abysmally low quality of the serials being aired, these days. For e.g.:-
1. Sthreedhanam, started Of quite well with a fairly good story line. But in the last few months it has deteriorated into absolute trash. The silly / stupid / idiotic / terrible / horrible / ludicrous antics of Mathisukku, his mother, wife and daughter, Thangu and Sethulakshmi, is sought to be passed off as COMEDY. This is an insult to the viewers. To add insult to injury, periodically it was being aired, with great fanfare that, it is the longest running serial, with more than a thousand episodes. Perhaps the best title it deserves is for the ' Worst Serial'. For Heaven's sake give it a quick burial, and save your viewers, further agony.
2. Pranayam: too flattered to deceive. It has two business tycoons! Sharan and Prakash, have nothing better to do than, indulge in petty machinations to outwit each other. Artificial situations are created just to prolong the serial.
3. Chandanamazha: too had an ok story to start with. But now has morphed into a fashion show. It's characters appear as models of some jewellery brand, and appear In their gaudy, garish attire, as just out of a beauty parlour, and headed to a fashion parade. It is an insult to malayalee viewers, who are more grounded, and used to naturality. The interminable silly machinations of the mother, daughter duo of Mayawathi and Varsha, is also an insult to your viewers.
4. Last but not least - Karuthamuthu: started with a lot of hype and fanfare, and to be fair with a fairly good storyline. But in the last few months, it has become an eyesore to say the least. There is no end to the manipulations of the psychotic Dr.Mareena. And we have a famous ! Cardiologist, , Dr.Balachandran, who is more innocent than a newborn, for ever carrying his woes to Dr.Mareena ( his dear, sincere friend), with no other place than the corridor of their hospital to discuss them. We have his father, the retired Krishi officer, having no earthly reason, not to tell his family members, what he is trying hard to conceal . All this just to prolong the serial. All this is plain awful and an insult to the discerning viewers.
While the channels concern for its commercial interest is understandable, it should not be at the risk of its credibility, popularity and the viewers sensitivity. Please don't take your viewers for granted, and try to dish out better fare. Else they need only to switch channels
