[Resolved]  Airtel — Deactivate connection and resisting to provide assistance for activation

Address:Chennai, Tamil Nadu

I had to travel abroad and so switched my/wife's number from postpaid to prepaid such that I can recharge when I want but receive SMS all the time. But they screwed up my wife's number and it never got activated. I had to pay 2-3 times some balance amount that they were referring for no purpose. Would they even make the switch if I had not settled the outstanding postpaid amount?

Luckily my number was activated and was functional until a couple of days back it stopped working. I don't get any SMS now or able to make calls. They have deactivated my number, not sure why. All over this, I have been spending money from abroad and calling the customer care . These have no idea of how to assist. I am telling them I am not in India but they tell me I have to go the Airtel showroom to submit request or whatever. I was told that the number was inactive for 90 days and so was deactivated. But the mobile has been active all the time receiving SMS.

The problem I have now is my family member is being operated for bypass heart surgery, and I need to send money. That requires OTP code as SMS from the bank. Now I cannot receive SMS. I begged those customer care about this. But they want me to come to the Airtel show room to sort this out. While my family is struggling there in India to raise money, which is in lakhs. I would want Airtel to compensate for the mental agony that we have been through.

Even if the service has to be deactivated, Airtel should send email or call me, confirming if number is still active with me or not.

Hope some organization governing this takes some action against Airtel. As of this writing, I have not yet been able to transfer the money.

Hi Saurav,

I had my friends visit the Airtel head office, and they are telling that the numbers are already sold and taken up by somebody (in a different network). I have been having that number for a very long time. It is all gone now. It is time I start begging all other organizations like Airtel for communicating/contacting me via email or alternative number.

Is it possible for me to get new prepaid connections from outside the country?

Regards
Vivek Ragunathan
