To whomsoever it may concern:

My wife and I were to travel to Johannesburg on the 10th of May, on flight 9W242, arriving into JNB at 0745 am. I am visiting South Africa for business purposes. I am a speaker at the ITWeb Security Summit 2010, an international conference on computer security - www.securitysummit.co.za.

My talk is scheduled on the morning of the 11th of May 2010.

MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN INVOLUNTARY OFFLOADED FROM THE FLIGHT ON THE 10TH OF MAY 2010. Upon lengthy arguments with both American Airlines (where I redeemed my award travel from) and Jet Airways, I am told that the flight was canceled due to undisclosed Operational Reasons.

Honestly speaking, Jet Airways has unfairly left me in a very bad situation and that too at a time when it is beyond my capacity to make any changes and accomodate this unfair cancellation.

I can understand if the flight is canceled because of weather or an aircraft malfunction or a volcanic ash cloud. I cannot simply accept a reason like Operational Reasons, which to me means that there weren't enough seats sold for you to make a profit, so you just cancelled the flight.

Nonetheless, I am in a situation where I cannot do anything to fix the situation from my end.

a) A full refund is not acceptable since I have to speak and present at an international conference. At this moment, I cannot pay through my nose to book last minute fares on another airline. You have left me no time to do that.

b) I asked if Jet could put us on a South African Airways flight that leaves more or less the same time on the same route. This ended up being a back-and-forth battle between Jet and American Airlines. Each pointing to the other, leaving us, the customers totally helpless.

c) I am going to lose my one night of hotel booking, which I cannot cancel because the deadline has passed. I am going to lose money on this. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, I am going to arrive without any rest and have no time to freshen up and rehearse before my presentation.

HOW CAN YOU SIMPLY LEAVE CUSTOMERS HANGING LIKE THIS AT THE LAST MOMENT?

IF YOU CANCEL A FLIGHT FOR UNDISCLOSED REASONS, YOU EXPECT CUSTOMERS TO JUST SIT DOWN AND TAKE IT?

ALL YOU CAN DO IS JUST SAY "SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE"? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? WE ARE LOSING TIME, MONEY AND ENERGY FOR NO FAULT OF OURS. AND YOU ARE NOT EVEN WILLING TO CARE FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS NEEDS? So what if we have redeemed miles? Didn't we pay to earn those miles at sometime? Why are we treated like this?

The LEAST you can do is offer my wife and I an upgrade to business class on the outbound flight, so that I can atleast have some rest and make my presentation properly.

It is a SHAME that Jet Airways decides to act so casually and carelessly and cancel flights without any valid rhyme or reason, leaving customers in the lurch. This proves that your business is NOT built on ethics and responsibility - simply to better your bottom line at any cost.

I demand a proper answer to ALL the points addressed in this letter. Please call me in the next 12 hours on my mobile phone and address our problems properly.

To prove that I am indeed a speaker at the conference and not a casual holiday traveler, I have attached the conference agenda with my name and photograph highlighted. Also an invitation letter sent by the company, and our original tickets for the 10th of May.

JET LITE ARBITRARY CANCELLATION — ARBITRARY CANCELLATION OF TICKET

Inspite of having a confirmed reservation on Flight S2 0622 on the sector Chennai - Mumbai on January 13th, 09 for my mother, Mrs. Saradha Mohan Das ( Age 75 years: PNR : KMBAIO and self, I was shocked to discover that Jetlite has arbitrarily cancelled her ticket citing a wierd reason that the same was cancelled by me ( her son, who was accompanying her and who reached the airport with her !!!).on Jan 12th . They were unable to give any verifiable proof regarding the details of the caller, any identification proof details to satisfy my urgent queries . Like a parrot they were only repeating gibberish that the ticket was cancelled and I would have to pay Rs. 1500/- extra so that my mother could fly with me!!! I had no option but to pay the extra charges for the ticket.

I have still not got over this shock and am stunned by the enormity of this deceit from the Jet Airways stable of which I am a frequent flyer (Frequent Flyer No.[protected].

I demand an immediate explanation, refund with damages and a face to face meeting with the Sr. Officials of Jet Lite and Jet Airways. This could happen to anyone.

Jetlite — Refunding of fare amount which was less than communicated

I had cancelled my ticket (No.[protected] on 6th April, 2009. While
cancelling I was given the Reference No. F041303 & I was informed that
I would be refunded Rs.5850 after deducting Rs.1250 as cancellation
charges. Inspite of repeated calls, I was refunded a part of the money
(i.e. Rs.3521) after a long time. I was provided with two reference
numbers:
[protected]
[protected]

When I enquired about the reason as to why only a part of the money
was refunded, I was told that I had earlier cancelled my ticket for
Delhi-Kathmandu Sector. I was also told that I'd been re-issued a
ticket for the Mumbai-Delhi sector. One thing that I cant understand
is how could the customer care agent cancel only one sector inspite of
me repeatedly telling that I want the complete ticket to be cancelled.

Further, when I cancelled the ticket from Mumbai to Delhi sector
(Reference No.R052233), I was again charged Rs.750 as deduction
charges for cancelling my Mumbai-Delhi sector ticket. So effectively I
was refunded only Rs.5100, even though I was informed specifically
that the refund would be of Rs.5850.
I have booked ticket having PNR NO-OKUXTF, OKUCFO. But in the ticket there is not mentioned the full name of myself, my wife's, my daughter's name. So I am very anxious if there is a problem in security checkin or web checkin or to take boarding pass.
Please do the neccessary ASP.
Follow-up: There has been no update from Jet Airways. The only option left to me was to write an email to their customer relations department. Their customer relations department is too poor to have an office address or a phone number or a fax machine. But yes, they do have Internet.

I wrote them a note on the 8th of May 2010. I receive a "thanks for your email, we are working on it" reply on the 10th. Thereafter, there has been no further communication.

Anyone here knows how to escalate matters to the Department of Civil Aviation in India?

Regards,
Mohan M,
Thank you Mohan. I was told to check on the DGCA. I shall email them too. It is a long winded matter, but let's see if the airline values its ethics.

Mr Soumil Shah

Dear Mr Shah,

This is further to our initial acknowledgement and your email as of date, regarding your booking on the Mumbai-Johannesburg flight on May 10, 2010.

Mr. Shah, firstly, I thank you for your kind association with Jet Airways, we sincerely value your goodwill and custom. We sincerely regret the inconvenience faced by you and Ms. Patel, due to the cancellation of flight 9W 242 from Mumbai to Johannesburg on May 10, 2010 due to operational reasons. We can understand your predicament in the given situation, especially since you and Mrs. Shah, were travelling for an important conference as mentioned by you.

Our records indicate that the message regarding schedule change was communicated to you on May 8, 2010. Please allow us to assure you that it is not our intention to place any discomfort or inconvenience to our passengers and regret that the facilitation and communication from our staff was short of expected service levels.

I am sorry to note that the options given in view of flight cancellation were not acceptable in view of your scheduled programme. Also, we regret that in keeping with the ticket type our staff was unable to process endorsement of the ticket to South African Airline. However, I trust you will appreciate that there are certain guidelines that the staff had to follow in such situations.

Notwithstanding the above, we have taken cognisance of your comments which have been shared with our operational departments for apportioning responsibility and internal action. We will certainly initiate measures to ensure efficient and systematic handling of passengers with utmost regard to their convenience in such situations.

Moving forward, as a gesture of goodwill, we would be pleased to reimburse the cost of that day’s Hotel accommodation charges, that you had to incur although not being able to check-in on the first day of the booking. We trust you will accept this offer in the spirit in which it is made and advise us to enable issue suitable instructions.

Mr. Shah, we value your support of our Airline and look forward to many more opportunities of serving you. We assure you of our efforts to ensure that your forthcoming travel on May 17, 2010 would be pleasant and comfortable.

Thank you for communicating with us and giving us an opportunity to explain.

With the hope that you will not let this experience dissuade you from flying Jet Airways in the future, we look forward to many more opportunities to welcoming you on board.

Please do not hesitate to contact us in the event if we can be of any help to facilitate any of your future travels.

Yours sincerely,

Customer Relations
My reply to customer relations. Sent on 19th May 2010.

Greetings Supriya,

First, you got my name wrong. It is spelled with an "a", not an "o". Never mind.

Second, please dispense with the superfluous niceties. It doesn't work. Flowery language doesn't cost a thing - as was generously sprinkled in your letter. Saying things that "we shall take measures to ensure efficient handling of passengers" or whatever it is that you wrote about bringing it up to the operations department DOESNT HELP ME. These are just words - hardly worth the electrons that they were typed with. It doesn't help me at all.

Neither does the whole silly act of having a porter help us with our luggage when we landed in Mumbai on the 17th. Honestly, both my wife and I felt that it was like an insulting joke. WE ARE PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF HANDLING OUR OWN LUGGAGE. We aren't some spoilt brats who fuss about having everything carried for them. And not only that, all that the porter did was drag a trolley for us to the conveyor belt. He got distracted when your pretty stewardesses came by and asked him to carry their luggage. Then he went away and we never saw him again. The guy who was assigned to walk with us from the gate to the luggage conveyor was equally silly. All he could do was say "we had a porter for you, but he had to go somewhere". PLEASE. That was just pathetic. In fact, it is downright insulting that you estimated the entire worth of our inconvenience to something that would appease us by having a porter around. It is like going to a restaurant, ordering a meal, finding out that it is inedible and the only thing that the restaurant guy does is say "oh we have some free salt and pepper to help you with the taste". Did you honestly think that having some porter follow us for a few minutes and pick up our bags and bring them on a trolley will make us look at Jet Airways with awe and wonder? It was one of the dumbest moves we've ever seen. My wife was in utter disbelief at this little charade. She is a professor of Marketing and Communication and she's keen on using this as an example in class of how NOT to handle things - if only it seemed believable.

If you wanted to try to please us, I shall give you many suggestions:

a) Jet airways could have upgraded us to a seat where I could sleep and arrive refreshed before the conference. Most of your business class was empty. Yet, all Jet staff will ZEALOUSLY hold on to business class seats. We're not asking for a kidney donation. Just a damn seat for a few hours, that would make a difference - especially when you arbitrarily cancel flights on your customers!

b) Priority luggage tags. Or does that even cost you?

c) Free flight vouchers. I'm sorry, but I dared to dream.

d) Be prompt with your responses. Time is everything. Delayed responses (5 days late and that too with prodding) don't really count much.

Let me ask you a STRAIGHT question. What is the reason of cancelling the flight? Does your conscience allow you to tell me the truth? Or will you simply just say "undisclosed operational reasons"? I have checked with the DGCA and it seems that Jet Airways and Jet Lite are both NOTORIOUS with cancellations these days. I'm sure you're well aware of the DGCA report at: http://www.dgca.gov.in/reports/seat-ind.htm

It goes to prove that such cancellations aren't stray incidents but a REGULAR PRACTICE with your airline. I understand that times are tough, but that doesn't give you an excuse to put ethics away when it comes to the company's bottom line. Or atleast if it does, then I just view Jet Airways as yet another pathetic human body transporter. Stop calling yourself the finest Indian airline or whatever superlative you wish to choose.

IF YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT YOUR CUSTOMERS, PLEASE HAVE A REPRESENTATIVE COME AND MEET ME AT MY OFFICE. Make an honest and an earnest attempt to set things straight. Send someone who has proper authority and some smartness - not like that silly porter stunt. If you don't really care about customers, just tell me how I should get my hotel money. The total was approximately 250 USD.

28th Oct : Orchha

After breakfast proceed for a sightseeing tour of Orchha; was founded in the 16th century by the Bundela Rajput chieftain, Rudra Pratap, who chose this stretch of land along the Betwa river as an ideal site for his capital. Of the succeeding rulers, the most notable was Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo who built the exquisite Jehangir Mahal, a tiered palace crowned by graceful chhatris. From here the view of soaring temple spires and cenotaphs is spectacular Visit Orchha's fort complex, the entrance of which is a multi-arched bridge, has three impressive palaces placed in an open quadrangle. The first of these is the Jehangir Mahal, built by Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo in the 17th century, to mark the occasion of Emperor Jehangir's visit to the city. Fragile chhatries and ornate trellis work heighten the effect of artistic richness. The Raj Mahal was built by Madhukar Shah, the religious predecessor of Bir Singh Ju Deo. The interiors boast of intricate murals, depicting various religious themes. The Rai Praveen Mahal was built for the famous musician-poetess paramour of King Indramani, Rai Praveen, as a mark of admiration by Emperor Akbar. Continue to one of the most famous temple in Orchha, the Ram Raja temple. This palace - tu ned - temple is the only one of its kind, where Ram is worshipped as a king. The Laxminarayan temple sports an interesting fusion of fort and temple architecture. The interiors contain the most exquisite of Orchha's wall paintings. There are 14 cenotaphs or chhatries to the rulers of Orchha, across the Kanchana Ghat of the Betwa River.Overnight at Hotel

29th Oct : Orchha- Khajuraho ( Surf)

After breakfast drive to Khajuraho; lies in the forested plains of the region of Bundelkhand and world renowned for its temple architecture and exquisite sculptures. Built under later Chandela kings between 950 and 1050 AD in a truly inspired burst of creativity, the temples are superb examples of Indo-Aryan architecture. The engravings on these temples are highly sensual and erotic that depicts in graceful forms intimate scenes of the whole range of human emotions and relationships. These sculptures congeal in stone a lyrical paean to love and passion and reflect the Chandela dynasty's immense appreciation for art. Upon arrival in Khajuraho, check in at your pre booked Hotel Harmony. Afternoon visit the western and the eastern group of temples in Khajuraho.

visit the Western Group of temples which are entirely Hindu, and constitute some of the finest examples of Chandela art at its peak. The largest being the Kandhariya Mahadev dedicated to Lord Shiva, followed by a granite temple - Chaunsath Yogini. The Chitragupta Temple is dedicated to the Sun God, while the Vishwanath Temple sports a three-headed image of Brahma – the Creator of the Universe. The Lakshmana Temple is superbly decorated, while the Devi Jagdambi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. Other temples in the Western Group include the Varaha Temple with a nine-foot high boar-incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the Matangeshwara Temple with an eight-foot high lingam, and the Brahma Temple.

Also visit the Eastern Group of temples. This group comprises of two historic Jain temples – the Adinath Temple lavishly embellished with sculpted figures, and the Parsvanath Temple, the largest Jain temple, sculpted with charming detail. There are other shrines such as the Vamana Temple with apsaras in sensuous poses, and the Javari Temple that has a richly-carved doorway. Overnight at Hotel.

On arrival at Varanasi airport met by our representative and transfer to Hotel Palace on Ganges. Rest of the day at leisure. Over night .After check in take a stroll down the ghats of Ganges,

31st Oct:-Varanasi

Enjoy an early morning boat ride on the river Ganges. Varanasi's principle attraction is the string of bathing ghats, which line the western ghats of River Ganges. The spectacular 4 Km sweep of the Ghats is a unique sight, best viewed at dawn. The boat ride presents an incredible scene as the multitudes of devotees come to the river to pay homage to the Sun God. Pass the bathing ghats where thousands of pilgrims immerse themselves in the holy water of the Ganges River and the burning ghats where cremations are conducted.

Post breakfast you will visit the Kashi-Vishwanath Temple (also known as Golden Temple), the most sacred of all shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, the presiding deity of the city. More than the Ghats and even the Ganga, the Shivalinga installed in the temple remains the devotional focus of Varansi. Continue to the Bharat Mata Mandir, opened by Mahatma Gandhi and dedicated to 'Mother India'. This

simple temple has a perfect relief map of India carved out of marble instead of gods and goddesses.

Afternoon excursion to Sarnath Located about 10km from Varanasi, it is one of the important Buddhist centres. It is the site where Lord Buddha had preached his first sermon or in religious language, set

in motion the Wheel of Law (Maha-Dharmachakra-Pravartan) enshrining the principles of his teaching into laws. 200 years later, in 3rd century BC, the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka who spread the Buddha's message of love and compassion throughout his vast empire, built massive stupas, viharas and monasteries making it the centre of the Buddhist world. Several Buddhist structures were raised at Sarnath between 3rd century BC and 11th century AD and today it presents the most expansive ruins amongst places on the Buddhist trail. Madan Mohan Malviya's cherished project, it played a stellar role during the independence movement by stroking the fire for freedom in young and old alike. Panditji chose Varanasi as the site because of its centuries-old tradition of learning, wisdom and spirituality. While at the campus you could also check out the New Vishwanath Temple and a fine museum called Bharat Kala Bhavan.

Afternoon, excursion to Ramnagar - For a 17th century fort, this one is seriously well-preserved, probably because the Maharaja of Benares still resides here. The hall of public audience (Durbar Hall) and the royal museum housing collections of palanquins, elephant saddles, arms, furniture, costumes, etc., are a must see at the Ramnagar fort. Return by boat in the evening, en route witness the religious ceremonies along the banks of river Ganges. Overnight at the hotel.
