ondot courier and cargo ltd — Non delivery of courier at thirunageshwaram
My name is Chellapa and I reside at No.11 sixth cross street, Karpagam Gardens, Adyar. I sent a cover to the Asst. Commissioner, Sri Oppiliappan Temple, Thirunageswaram through on dot besant nagar courier office on 23/06/2009 under the above way bill. The in charge of the booking office confirmed that service is available at Thirunageswaram and that the cover would reach the addressee the next day, failing which, it would be delivered on the 25th of june. As the cover contained a DD for Rs.1500/- in connection with the conducting Kalyana Uthsavam on the 28th June, we got doubly confirmed about proper delivery of the cover.We have already arranged other religious functions and a group of 12 people proceeded to kumbakonam (by car and by tatkal reservations). On 28th the temple authorities confirmed that as DD was not delivered, the Kalyana Uthsavam could not be conducted.
Despite our showing the Xerox copy of the DD, the temple authorites insisted that they could not do anything unless DD in original was received by them. They also told that they do not have on dot courier service available at Thirunageswaram. The couple who were sitting in front of the deity was asked to get up and this has caused us much concern, especially to the elderly people, who attach lot of significance to these things. They were all in tears and they thought this was a bad omen.
On 29th we contacted Ms. Soundarya and Mr.Srinivasan of “Flywing” at LB road office. They promised to talk to us with the cover the next day. There was no response upto 4th of july evening despite our contacting them frequently besides explaining the whole story to Mr.Senthil. The cover was sent back by courier on 4th evening at 5:45 pm. In the meantime, I personally went to the besant nagar office to check with the lady who booked the courier for us. She said only booking the cover is her work and she would not know if the service is available at any particular place. I was surprised because she was the one who told us on dot service is available at Thirunageswaram. I did not argue with her because I felt it was pointless.
The non delivery of the cover at Thirunageswaram despite their confirmation that service exist and the cover would reach latest by 25th june has caused us many hardship, financial strain and physical strain needless to say the mental agony to the elderly people. Hence we seek compensation for the above
