I had been a subscriber to Reader’s Digest since many years now and have been receiving the Magazine by post every month. They have stopped sending the magazines to me from July, 2012, although I have paid the annual Subscription for issues upto February, 2013. They send some junks in the name of SWEEP STAKES asking you to buy some of their products and saying that you are the only one in Bengal, 1 among 30 in India to enter the contest, additional prize for quick reply within 7 days / 14 days and so on if you are the winner through computer selection etc. The junk never reaches you with in the stipulated time. It is being stamped at a particular predate and hands over to the Post office concerned. The Junk reaches you after a quick 25 days if you are lucky, or else even after 3 months. When they send letter to you demanding any money due, the letter reaches you in 3 days. This evidently shows that they are only marketing their products and not interested in any Sweep Stakes. They send 2 envelopes for “YES” reply and for “NO” reply. Yes reply shall go to an address at Fort, Mumbai and No reply one goes to Panvel. The Pity is that for NO reply you have to affix Postage Stamps at your cost and it is quite likely that you are not included in the month’s special award if any, because you have not bought their product. Sometimes they fail to attach NO reply envelope intentionally so that you are forced send the reply in the YES envelope. Then you will be the sucker and pay for some product which shall not be wanted in your family. Unknowingly if you receive it pay the Penalty and increase the burden on your floor. Surely I have bought many valuable products in this way worth more than Rs. 50K. But sometimes they send you many unwanted products without any demand. For one such case, I have received one such book which I ALREADY HAVE, HAVING BEEN BOUGHT FROM THEM. To my utter surprise they have unauthorisedly debited something to my Credit Card and as a proof I have shown below my letter to my Bank. This deduction today is a punishment to a septuagenarian against the complaint made to them in writing a few days ago about no receipt of periodicals and unreasonable deduction of Rs. 80/- and forcibly sending unwanted product. My mail to the Bank is shown below.

Today I received a SMS from you stating that Rs. 80/- has been paid to Reader's Digest against my Credit Card No. [protected]. This is illegal demand of the Reader's Digest. Similarly Rs. 80/- was debited to my card by them in March, 2012. For no fault of mine I am being victimised. I request ICICI Bank NOT TO PAY ANY AMOUNT TO READER'S DIGEST FROM MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER MENTIONED ABOVE. If at all any amount is auto debited to me unless I authorise through my security code, it will be illegal. Kindly Inform all your Staff concerned with the payment to Reader's Digest. Since R.D. has stopped sending my monthly issues of the magazine from July, 2012 although I have paid Annual subscriptions for the period upto February, 2013, I am going to stop further subscriptions.

I had subsribed to a set of 6 books from Reader's Digest. However, after receiving and making payments for two books I found the same not to my liking and immediately informed them to stop further despatch. But they sent the third also. I felt may be they will take some time to discontinue and hence in good faith I paid for the 3rd also. But then the fourth one also poured in. When I sent the same back without making payment, they did not accept it and I received the same back to my house. That's when I decided not to make them any payment further.

I sent them emails and gave them calls but their responses were weird and vague and showed that their customer support people had no communication link with their accounts or other departments and hence my hopes of resolving the same amicably dashed. It was clear from the calls and emails that they never recorded my request for stopping further delivery. But then I started getting intimations/reminders for payment which I ignored initially but finally in order to settle out without hitch I paid the last amount through cheque on 28th July-2012.

However, despite that, their accounts departments sent written threats to send my case to Collection Department (most probably they meant collection agents) and the last reminder i received was from their collection department again with vieled threats.

THIS IS HIGHLY UNBECOMING OF THEM AND I REQUEST YOU TO IMMEDIATELY TAKE UP THE MATTER AND RESOLVE. ELSE, I WILL BE FORCED TO LODGE POLICE COMPLAINT AS WELL AS COMPLAINT IN CONSUMER FORUM FOR DAMAGES AND ACTION.

It is with deep regret i write this complaint to you to say how DISGUSTING, SHAMEFUL DISGRACEFUL & PATHETIC service your famous issue READWES DIGEST has left such an terrible BAD IMPACT on me here in Goa.

On the 28th of April 2012 i paid the Post Master of Curtorim Post Office Pin Code No 403709 a sum of Rs 577.00 Only for sending me some books from ur end, However the Post Master did send your company the same amount by M.O. No 97 dated 28th April 2012, and I have not recd a single copy of yhe READERS DIGEST SINCE JUNE 2012, instead i get one more packet of the same books asking me to pay the same amount of Rs 577 again

I WISH TO INFORM YOU VERY SERIOUSLY THAT IF I DO NOT START RECEIVING MY COPIES OF READERS DIGEST FROM JUNE 2012 ONWARDS, I shall come personally to Delhi Consumer Forums Office
and make a personnel complaint regarding this fraud you are committing against me.

Please remember that i have paid ready cash to obtain my issues, and if you take it very lightly i shall drag you to the High Court , AND MAKE YOU PAY THE REQUIRED COMPENSATION.

I gave email addresses of 10 friends but yet i did not receive any
free book and even i am not confirmed in the Sweepstakes yet..

It has been almost 5 months since i participated in this contest and
filled the form regarding the email adresses of 10 friends..

The company sent a msg to my email for the prize offer and I participated in the offer . the company sent me a parcel of magazine " READERS DIGEST " and for that I have paid Rs. 577 . But in the parcel there was not the magazine Readers Digest but there were three other ordinary books which were law cost books and i had to pay 577....?/??

This is in reference to the non receipt of my subscription copies of Reader's Digest Magazine for the months of Feb, Mar & Apr, 2012. I have renewed my subscription for one year (2012). I have received the VPP and paid the required amount. My subscriber Number is 12-PUR 2012- RD[protected]/0-Jan'13.
I was supposed to receive the first subscription copy for the month of February, 2012. Its 19th. of April,2012 and I have not received any copy till now.
It is pertinent to mention here that it has become a routine here at post office Udrana (182221), Bhadarwah (J & K) to tear the packets and deliver them after one month or more. But this time I have not received the copy of Readers Digest for three months.
Pleas look into the matter and do the needful at your end. So that I get my subscription and other items on time.

Hi,

I have subscribed for Readers digest...because of which i got letters from sweepstakes and also provision to purchase items from the offers made by reader's digest... I had ordered gold palted zircon set worth Rs. 2579- and after long followup..i received it ..but the quality of the product was cheap like any road side jwellery..i returned as soon as i got it... i returned on 3rd March and they received on 5th march ...i know it because i have postal records..and i tracked the lodhivali office and obtained the proof with RD stamp... on asking the customer care they say they have not received the parcel... how strange... they also said they might have misplaced it...and hence provide some proof ...
isnt it funny... they are asking me for proof...i obtained the proof from post office and have mailed.. but now they say they didnt get my mail..
on creating ruckus ..finally my mail was acknowledged...and i have been told that they will reply to my mail in one day... i hope they refund my money...Guys please donot trust this service ...its WORST and people dont know how to do buisness and provide service to a customer... the products that they offer are of cheap quality... moreover Sweepstakes is fraud...donot fall for it.
I want an apology and my refund.

Here I Gunjan Patel like to inform you that one of the reputed magazine distributor as Reader's Digest is involving in online [censored] lottery and sweepstakes scandal. they are first online mailing winning mail to gmail or yahoo account. and after collecting the users basic details like name and address they are sending the subscription postal order of worth rupees 449 without ordering the subscription.this is one kind of trick to cheat the people. As i one of the accused among thousand i appeal that kindly take the immediate action on this before more cases as of mine are going to be happen.

I had made a subscription for two copies of Readers Digest on Oct 01, 2011.
The payment was made online, and I received a Order number: RDWEB[protected]R

It has been three months now, and I am yet to receive the first copy.
I had written to them twice, and they are yet to provide me either a reason, or mention the start date, or refund.
I hope they will act, at least now ...
